    Default Turbo Identifcation,

hey guys, i have a turbo i will be putting up for sale, but i cant identify whether its a GT30 or a GT35, its not on me at the moment as its in storage with other bits and pieces and i only have a couple camera phone pics, couldnt find it identified on the housing either.
its of a project my mate and i were going to go ahead with, but have now given up on, and i am unable to get better pics for a few days.
Was all bought second hand and was told it was a Garret GT35.
any help will be very helpful, as i am about to put it all up for sale.
    cheers

it was all bought from the states as well. made for a B16A motor.

just looking at the size of the compressor, i'd say it looks lie a GT30.

But to hard to tell from these pictures.

ahhh yeh, this is some of the info i had on it.
Upgraded Garrett turbo (new) 60-1 W/ 70-1 HOUSING capable of 500hp w/ smooth efficiency. (Smoke free turbo) Should spool fully at 3,000rpm.

    not really that much help...

only way you will know, is either measure it up, or grab the serial number off it.

Ok, it's not a Garrett GT. The 60-1 number gives that away. there's a good chance it's from the TO4B series and here is it's compressor map:

To generate 500hp you need to pump ~60lbs/minute (0.35m^3/s.) Using my spreedsheet (and a 1JZ-GTE as a test example) we can see that yes this turbo has the potential to make 500hp (375kW) at 8800RPM on 22PSi (not un reasonable figures.) It is likely on a 1J that this turbo would spool up between 3500 and 4000RPM

    Cheers

Its hard to tell without measurements but i dont think it is either. The compressor wheel looks far too small for a 60-1 (plus doesnt have same amount of fins/ blades) let alone the big burtha the GT35 / GT3540.

Here is a couple of comparision pics. The first is my old T60-1 and the later is the new GT3540

It is still hard to make the size out from the pic but the first turbo pic is the T60-1 with a .6 A/R comp cover. The inlet is 3" and you can see that the compressor wheel uses almost all of that 3'inlet !!

The second is the GT3540 it uses a .7 A/R comp housing and the comp wheel on this puppy uses almost all the 4" inlet too !!

depends how Chinese and oil cooled it is?

The less Chinese and the more water cooling the better. BB even better.

Measurement's that will help identify are the: the conmpressor/turbine major and minor diameters, as well as the A/R of both the comprssor/turbine housings. There's a good chance these will be printed in it's itentification plaque.

    Cheers

P.S: remember that there are many different compressor housings avaliable, to which you can fit any compressor wheel.

I would just sell it as a T4. You could spend ages trying to work out exactly what sort it is.

Depending on the condition of the bearings IE shaft movement i would expect you would get $400-500 mabe ??

What flange does it have? Gt30R and GT35R are both T3 flange. If it's a T4 flange then it's most likely a T04 variant
