Interested to know what kind of price they quote you as I've been looking at one myself.
Hey all,
been aaaages since Ive posted here, not since we had the 20v in the buggy.
The old racecar went from various L16s to various 16v's when it met its doom when the yowie jumped on the track and we rolled into the tree to avoid it.... The new racecar started with a 20v and went up to a 1UZ v8 before completion.
The rules for the division we race in though are now set to 3.5L. After looking at and deciding de-stroking the 4.0L is too difficult, costly and reduced torque too much we're looking for an <3.5L engine - 1MZ (3Ltr v6 version of 1UZ) is one easy option, but I'd prefer the 3MZ as its 3.3Ltr with VVT.
Anyone know where I might find one in Aus? Ive drawn a blank with the main Sydney engine importers. Anyone got any other suggestions on toyota motors?
CHeers all,
Riv.

destroked 1uz to 3.5L is only a 5mm offset grind... surely thats easily doable? might not have the fantastic bearing sustainability to punch out 300,000 reliable road kms, but for what youre doing?
edit - acually, its not that easily doablesure 5mm offset grind, but that requires 10mm off the journal...

A destroked 1UZ would be awesome, imagine how it would rev!I can't imagine a 3MZ being any better than that.

Hey Ed, seen you floating about on Lextreme...
Destroke is definately doable for <3 grand. It'd end out a massively oversqare block - great for revving it like a hummingbird - but not as good for torque as a 3.5 V6, and torque wins races, esp in offroad...
Huge thanks! have spent a morning on the phone only to get the info I wanted in 5 mins here. Cheers steve, owe you a beer!Originally Posted by wagonist

yup, been kicking up some dust over there a little
spend most of my time here (or on v-eight.com)
re: revs and torque, depends what kind of gear box and gear reduction you can muster together.
3mz is a pretty good donk. not sure if anyone has had a serious play with them though.

Gearbox is Renault UN5 with all aftermarket internals so we can set our own ratios... but big revs in offroad generally mean driveline failures...
There are a few MZ series engines being used offroad, the most serious being 1MZ bored, stroked, TT into a 6 speed sequential box... but its in a car worth 300+K.... bit out of my budget!
Biggest problem is the cam belts dont like running too long at 8000rpm...
goodyear have release a new line of belts. mainly pitched at the big boys (nascar, lemans etc) and ive been meaning to look into it.... they sound pretty good

Cheers Ed, will bear it in mind when I get it!

If you are refering to team Kittle their 1mz was kept a 3 litre.
The 3.5 litre with the sequential in the Chenowth is a 2 GR -FE which is out of the recently released Aurion. They were obviously able to get one long before they were released in Australia.
The 2GR-FE is perfect for the new class but are still hard to come by.
Can any Toymoders tell us how long this motor has been released in Japan as an import might be an option.

The 2GR-FE has been in the US-spec IS350 for quite a while now, and it absolutely hammers in that car - high 13's dead stock with an auto! Dunno how long it's been out in Japan, at a guess I'd say about a year?
Is an inline six an option? If so a 2JZ-GE with one of those 3.4L stroker kits would be a grunty low revving beast.

Cheers for the correction on the jimco. its gonna be 2gr next year too isnt it?Originally Posted by off-road
Yeah - 2GR would be nice for cl1... and you can buy them as crate motors from toyota as long as you sell your house, car, wife and give them your firstborn, hence the 3mz option - besides, 3mz will bolt straight to our 1uz adaptor.
too long hanging out the back end of a buggy!Originally Posted by Norbie
