Go to Toyota yourself and see how much they're worth...

    Also try this mob: http://www.precisionshims.com.au/

Otherwise, do what I did, and rabbit shims etc. from old 4AG's (try your local Toyota wrecker)

    3sf buckets work dont they....
i think the buckets are a rather standard size.
and mate, what do you mean by lifters?
the shims are $15 each. i priced it up myself

also, ive run my 1ggte with a shim dislodged
i just filed the rough edges off the cam and got on with life, why are you needing to replace all 24 "lifters" anyway...whatever the fuck you are referring to by that...

Well, that is a typical of the shim over bucket arrangement. Give them a BIG over rev, and they will flick the shim out !!

Clean up the gouges on the edge of the cam lobe, install a single new shim, and you are in business.

Toyota has probably quoted your mechanic for the bucket as well as the shim, hence the huge cost to do 24.

    cheers Chuck.

There are some engines that run shim under bucket, I think one of them is a camry motor (the V6?). I haven't looked too far into it but if the dimensions are right then that would be a nice little "upgrade" provided it works.

Hydra, a nice little upgrade, yes, but potentially quite expensive. I have previously looked at 1ZZ-xx buckets and shims for a 4A-GTE. Cost was not prohibitive, but I figured I would not be pushing past the factory redline, so not really necessary.
Best to just check and adjust shim thickness, as required. If the engine sounds a little loose in the top end, probably a real good time to check and re-shim.

My old man once said, the 2 cheapest things to keep your engine in good nick, is oil and filters. The next is your time, to check and adjust, and above all else have some mechanical empathy for your engine !!!

    cheers Chuck.
