oh and btw, it originally had a 1Y engine in it and its an 87 model.
picked up another free hilux the other day that needs a new engine. i was wondering what you guys think i should do. get a cheapo 22r and build it to the hilt, forged internals, 2.6l stroker, big cam, h rods and twin 45mm side draft webbers and keep it old school or should i go with another 1ggte?
also, is the 4age a contender for a swap into a hilux or will it be too under powered?

ive already got a hilux im putting a 1ggte into and its an aboslute prick of a thing at the moment. i think its cause from what i can gather the loom has been hacked at when it was in the previous car.
whats wrong with the 22r?
1g-gteu would be best bang for buck compared to the 22r. But if you want a stock engine just to replace it go the 22r. Way cheaper
Previous Rides: JZA80, GA70 GT, RA63 GT x2, TA61 GT, TA63.
actually, i think a 253 or 308 would suit this one best.
but the thought of a built 22r still intruiges me.
fuck that pushrod shit! 1uz FTW!
vote for 1G

Nath - this is the slightly serious tech section.... make your jokes better.
To be honest, i rekon screw the 1G, and move to the 3RZ torque monsta. They pop up every now and then on ebay, are all under 10 years old, make buckets of torque and decent power on the stock.... and with a turbo at half mast they sure do fkn move!
Be different.
...... butt scratcher?!

Find out what YOU want first mate. If you want to build up ur 22r i personally would think its cool even if it is less bang for buck. So if thats what you really want to do, dont let anyone discourage you. But if you want bang for buck then definitely go for a newer engine with lots more potential![]()
If you want N/A torque on tap, then the 1GZFE is for you... plus then you can have a sticker on your back windscreen say "Dont bother, its a V12"
Oh, and 22R are good for blowing head gaskets, warping heads and other nice things. 1GGTE wouldnt be so practical for a ute, just not enough idle torque. 1UZFE is a good option if you want a baby 1GZFE and dont want to spend so much.
