Default Is this a/f gauge worth having

I am a little bit concerned with the limits of my ecu/afm with more boost added and was wondering if this narrowband gauge would be worth having to keep an eye on the a/f ratio.
car is gen2 3sgte mr2( the wideband gauge is a little bit too expensive(US$379)

The wide band gauge is a bit out of my price range but obviously better

NB guage only good for you at fast/warm idle and cruising - at any other time it'll just show lean or rich but not the actual AFR.

Get a wideband O2 kit - fwiw, i'm getting an Innovate Controiller and a wideband sensor of these from the states (but without the dinky guage as it's being connecting to my ECU). Tech edge in Australia sell their own wideband kits - built and loose in kit form.

    Thanks for the info.
Narrowband is obviously just a waist of time and money then. (unless you want rice lol )
What's your thaughts on the autometer wideband gauge? Seems a little cheaper and less complicated than the the ones you suggested.
I am also looking and getting boost gauge and oil pressure aswell in the same series.(trying to keep all gauges similar)

you might be better off buying a injector duty cycle readout from jaycar and keeping an eye on that.

if it gets anywhere near 100% you might be starting to push the limits.

wideband would be the best though if you can afford it

That sounds alot easier to follow
What measurement is AFR measured in btw?

Do you have a part number or something to help me find this readout/kit?

Wideband would probably be best though i guess soon as i am contemplating ecu upgrade anyway.
any thaughts on bang for buck for an ecu and/or wideband for 3sgte geatly appreciated (the cheaper the better )

Injector duty cycle isnt always going to be best way of gauging whether youre AFRs are safe though. Same duty cycle can be lean or rich depending on what boost youre running (especially if the ECU doesnt know what boost youre running)
I used to eat alot of natural foods. That was until I learned that most people died of natural causes.

i bought an Innovate LC1 wideband meter for $270ish not that long ago, no gauge but u can buy an optional gauge for about the same again or there is an article on the innovate website about using a rice meter AFR gauge with the analogue output to give u real AFR readings

also use the PC to log AFRs nicely and can use 1 of the 2 analogue outputs to simulate a narrow band for the ECU if you are still on a stock ECU

i got an innovate wideband meter sensor and the aux kithavnt had much time to test it all but all up cost around 800

u dont need the aux kit so should only cost about 500

a dyno will cost around 200 to 400 so i think its cheap

but if your running a std ecu what will you do with the meter

if the std ecu cant cope and u see on yr expensive meter the mixtures are out what are you goin to do

you cant really return yr std ecu and get better performance and still have good cruise and fuel economy

i would only purchase one of these if your goin to play with aftermarket ecus

if yr worried about mixtures with a std ecu just get a dyno run

or speak to someone who knows 3sgtes

If you import a sensor and the 'controller from the US - it will cost you about $235 USD before it arrives at Oz customs.

(From my order showing US$ prices)
    1 x Innovate LC-1 Digital Wideband Controller with Sensor (wb-lc1-3769) = $199.00
    United States Postal Service (1 x 2.19lbs) (Global Express Mail (EMS) (3 - 5 Days)): $34.65

I ordered thru http://www.diyautotune.com as Buzz are out of stock atm.

The gauges is little more that dash-eye-candy so i never even considered getting one - mine was specifically bought for on-road tuning (and any logging i'll do via the ECU anyway) so it's just an LSU4.2 O2 sensor and small lump of silicon/plastic to control the sensor and pump out signals to a serial port and 2 outputs.

    (sorry for the uber-big picture)

Mine is plugging into a msextra.com ECU and it can use wideband or narrowband sensor input from a few controllers.
