It sounds like a wastegate hose has popped off. Check all associated lines...
Hi everyone, i'm after some help troubleshooting. After coming back from long country drive (dirt road, plenty of bumps etc) my car is now boosting over what i set it at.I have no idea why, i didnt touch anything related.
heres the details:
gen2 3sgte, wolf3d (boost cut now set on 17psi)not running afm anymore, turbosmart manual dual stage switching boost controlller. low boost set at 9, high set at 10.5psi.
vaccumn is sitting at about 19-20mg, it usually sits at 20-22mg, so thats probably something related.
As i accelerated on the freeway i watched the gauge and the boost just kept going, right up to 17psi and i let off straight away as it started cutting. Now it overboosts in every gear if i let it, that's with the boost controller switched to low mode and high mode. doesnt make a difference.
Where should i start looking?
I will bypass the boost controller maybe and see what boost it makes, but any other things/hoses to check out for?
thanks

did the problem start when you put the controller in? maybe youve hooked it up wrong, if not id say the wastegate hose has popped off or has a crack in it somewhere.

I would think that if the waste gate actuator hose had come off he would have very little boost!
Maybe try pulling the actuator hose off and see if it keeps boosting. If it does maybe the actuator is stuck.
thanks guys. well the controller has been fitted for about 2.5years now, so its hooked up right.
when you say wastegate hose, do you mean the hose that comes off the wastegate actuator that goes off to the t-vsv? because that is blocked off. (running the turbosmart controller) If so, i'll check that now.

Hi, Im enthused about corollas..
Sorry, guys just wanted to clarify. there are two lines.
the line that comes off the compressor housing that has the the wastegate actuator (has boost controller tee-d into it) = boost line?
Line that comes from other side of wastegate the goes to the t-vsv (which i have blocked atm) = wastegate line?
am i right in assuming these are the known names of the hoses?

WTF!!! NEVER DO THIS!!!! If you disconnect the wastegate actuator hose then the wastegate actuator sees NO boost signal and the wastegate stays shut leading to massive overboostOriginally Posted by Cool1
A split or popped actuator hose would explain your prob as would the boost controller malfunctioning from the vibration....just gonna have to run thru the elimination process.

I think i've found the problem..
Here's how i blocked off the wastegate actuator line for reference
here's the setup: The hose wrapped in congruite (sp?) is the turbosmart boost line.
I cant believe i missed it, but i thought it would be safe wrapped up. it wasnt rubbing on anything, just the curve of the hose over time.
Turbosmart hoses FTL...
To fix it i might cut it and put a straight barb connector between it.
+Rep allround.

Beats me., If I remove the hose from the compressor to my waste gate, it doesnt boost at allOriginally Posted by JustenGT8
Your engine needs to be running to boost mateOriginally Posted by Cool1

and under load lol
my 3sgte is also overboosting.
Hitting standard boost cut with no mods to actuator/lines etc. lines are ok i think maybe wastgate is seized. (Car sat in garage for 6 months without being driven.)

Could be. The wastegate c-clip is a bitch to get to but if you can manage it you'll have a better than even chance of freeing it up with lots of wiggling and WD40.Originally Posted by Cruiser97_80
If your lines are good another potential fault is the wastegate diaphram...they can perish if they sit around too long. Hook your wastegate actuator up to a compressor and see if you get any movement.
