Default Connecting PTFE hose - ubber noob Q.

In the ongoing quest to rid my 22 of the fuel smells that permiate through the car I have bought some PTFE hose (Teflon hose) as one possible source for the vapours. But I seem to have come to an rather noobish problem.

The hose is an almost solid plastic tube. How is the best way to connect this tube to the existing metal fuel line outlets on top of the fuel tank, as it doesn't seem to give a very air tight seal with an ordinary clamp?

Second (related) noobish question. If I was to put Speedflow ends on the PTFE hose, how do the Speedflow ends couple to the fuel tank, or would I need to weld on special fittings to the tank?

Hope this makes sense. Photo c/o Brucey's thread. The bit marked as "2" in the picture is an example of what I'm trying to connect the hoses to.

    Thanks
    I.

Your fuel vapor problem is from somewhere else.
Unless your old hose was leaking pretty badly, it wouldnt leech enough vapor that you could smell it in the cabin.
I would just use some normal rubber fuel hose for that.

Fuel smells normally come from the back of the car.
Check the fuel cap, filler tube, and other fuel hoses to the tank first.

Sorry should have clarified, the hose is all the connecting and breathing fuel lines in the boot. Just thought the photo would help illustrate the connector thingy.

Fuel cap is new. All hoses are in ok condition but being replaced by PTFE, filler neck has been sealed using self-amalgamanting tape. Yet the smell is so strong it will make you dizzy.

Thats odd,ive ditched the charcoal canister and had breathers just venting to air on a few cars and never had a fuel smell. If its that bad maybe its a small leak like a crack in the tank etc, somewhere high up so that it doesnt pour fuel but is big enough for a little bit to get out and evaporate.

Maybe the car is running rich, and you have exhaust gasses getting into the cabin via a leaky boot seal?
    Ive had that problem before.

Invid, PTFE hoses are generally connected with threaded unions, within the union an olive sits atop the the PTFE hose. When the union is tightened the olive grips the hose. Get the correct threaded fittings swaged or silver soldered onto your tank solid lines, have a new surge tank made up with some threaded fittings, and grab the appropriate hose fittings from either of the 2 hose shops in Fyshwick.

    cheers Chuck.

Its probably the fuel gauge sender in the tank leaking.

Anywhere you have a tube stub you can use a compression fitting to adapt to JIC/AN thread (the fittings with the 37.5degree taper sealing end you see on all the earls/speedflow/etc stuff) then fit your braided teflon with female swivel ends.

As long as the tubes are metric and you cut the raised section off it'll be fine. Any enzed will be able to help. Tell them you need a STAUFF FITTING part no is with 361098-XX-XX, The two XX's relate to the tube size and JIC size of the fitting, the JIC size relates to the hose dimension which they can tell you.

At the tank end you should also have tube stub or even perhaps a banjo fitting which can be replaced with another banjo that will fit to the hose or again I can help sort, but it will involve some welding of fittings.

Any issues PM me and as I work for Stauff I can help sort it.
