    Default 1g-gte NO OIL PRESSURE!!

I've just dropped a 1g-gte into my Ra23, and everything was going well until i cranked it over to get oil pressure. It's just not coming. It's got oil in it, it's got a pickup on it too (cleaned it out as well before fitting) I filled the oil filter with oil before fitting it. Even cranking with the oil filter removed no oil comes out?! what drives the oil pump on a 1g? The motor had been sitting for a year and a bit, and bought it from a guy who bought it from an importer... seems to crank over fine etc.. any idea's? Thanks.

    its driven by timing belt.
start the motor, if you have been cranking it a bit it will build pressure in bugger all time.
mine did the same thing post rebuild, was reading nada on the gauge, got pissed off and worried about starter so just started it, and like 1 second and the gauge was reading 60 psi

if its an old motor dont stress anyway

THe hemi 6 dizzy is fine, that's actually a GOOD thing to run in those engines (I run something similar).

But your dizzy doesn't have to have anything to do with your oil pump mate.

Like love_Ke said, it's to do with the oil pump driven off your timing gear. I'd have agood look around that area.

hemi: when you refitted the pickup, did you check that the o-ring in the pickup arm (where it attached to the pump) was intact or present? without that ring, the pump may have a hard time priming itself.

Hemi, I made similar situation when changed a new oil pump in my 1G. It was oil filled, during assembly, but absolutly no pressure when start engine first time.

Try this, remove the plastic cover over oil pump and using a small electric drill tool assist to the oil pump to rotate until You see oil comming to the oil filter.

If the drill tool works for, may be 20 seconds at high rpms and still no oil pressure, then may be the oil pump has died.

In my case, may be 5 seconds at high rpm was enought help to the pump, after that I started engine and it get 30psi at 1500 rpm during warm up.

Try pulling the plugs out when cranking to get pressure (you didn't mention plugs, so I'm assuming they're still in there).
Normal cranking rpm is very low, possibly not enough to prime an oil pump. The 2JZ out of the half cut wouldn't get oil pressure until the plugs were pulled out.

Thanks for all the advice everyone, I ended up just starting it and oil pressure built straight away. I was worried about the oil pickup because my original (winged front sump) used just a gasket, where as the new pickup i fitted (mid rear sump) had an O-ring seal, but turned out all is well!! The hemi 6 dizzy is almost a straight swap, even the hole for the drive gear pin lines up, as well as the flange face to gear distance is identical. I just had to machine up a sleeve to slip over the dizzy to make it a snug fit. Thanks again, cant wait to drive it!!

Funny that, toyota copied a lot of things from hemi engines
