It eliminates the "whooch-ooch-ooch" compressor surge noises and replaces it with a barely audible hiss.
Can someone explain how a plumb back quietens the car? I just can't see the logic there...

The glass is neither half empty nor half full, rather the glass is twice as big as it needs to be.

So I assuime that is only for vehicles without an airbox of some kind, cos neither of my cars make any noticeable induction noise!

No no, you will hear some noise with a plumb back, but it's more like a muffled version of the atmo BOV.
YOu will hear the compressor surge noise *Cue VL do doo doood oooo noise* even in an airboxed car, particularly if the boost is wound up. The same *THrrrrrrr* noise you hear from trucks, it's that same noise, just on a larger scale with a truck.
A plumb back stops the compressor surge, hence eliminating that compressor surge noise, and puts the excess air back into the turbo. However you'll still hear some airflow noise.
Wrong. Truck = diesel = no throttle = no compressor surge.Originally Posted by stradlater

My 1g Had a Atmo BOV when I got it. It leaked. the engine died before I could get it on a dyno. (no idea how long it was like that.)
the second engine I left it off I found the annoying stall dissapeared
(losing air after the AFM)
I'd vote for none or plumb back, seeing you don't have the room go with none. Especially if you still have the AFM (though if plumbed between the AFM and the turbo youshouldn't have the stalling issues.)

Beige.... The new Black!!!
hey mate just a quick one ... i have a gen 3 tt and mine had a BOV when i got it ... its a fairly decent turdbo fart one and it doesnt leak bosst pressure and no adverse affects on mine and im running 14PSI i had more problems come from a dodgy spark plug so id say if you want fuckkkkeeen whoooosh go for it ... if you want quiet leave it alone man i am taking mine out soon as i just dont like looking like a rice burner in the city whooooTCHHHgood luck
Good to see another old thread popping up. I didnt end up adding a bov to my engine.

I'm intending on running a plumback, but what alternatives are there to a huge dirty crossover plumback pipe? I assume that length of said pipe is irrelevant so as such i could run it via the longest and most hidden route from one side of the car to the other?

your correct, legnth of the plumb back pipe is irrelavant, so if you wanna hide that sucker with a long path go for it.
alternatives, put your bov closer to your intake pipe![]()
Have a look at Rods setup, it looks very neat and hardly noticable with the black hose. Just noticed its hard to tell because of the strut brace, but its welded to the factory pipe leading to the throttle body. I do believe that linden welded it in (confirmation?).

LOL. That's exhaust brake.Originally Posted by stradlater

as far as i know anything to do with turbo shorter is better .. ... on here i have seen a plumback photo shows you a good way to run it hope someone knows where i saw it and they can show you ....
