Dale - can you get it to trigger using the battery +ve to 86 and -ve to 85?
unless they have fused those voltages should be plenty (assuming a 12v relay!)
I just wired up a relay to boost the power going to my starter, however I'm not getting enough voltage to actually switch the relay so it will send power to the starter from the relay.
I tried two different relays, one was hella branded, the other was from jaycar.. both wouldn't click over.
Multimeter said there was 11.85v getting to the trigger pin on the relay, 12.45v coming direct from the battery. So the thing I'm wondering is there any particular brand/style of relay which will click over at slightly lower voltage/amperage?

The glass is neither half empty nor half full, rather the glass is twice as big as it needs to be.
At the moment it's wired up:
87 +ve
86 -ve
30 trigger
85 output
How should I change them around? sorry a little confused
yep it's a 12v relay

Nope, that'd do it!
85 is the earth
86 is your trigger
30 is the supply +ve and
87 is the output (or 87a or not 87(ie 87 with a line above) if it is a normally on type relay)

Ah, all fixed, starts easy as pie now! The instructions I originally follwed mislead me a bit
