4age Problems

if you dont know which cylinder thats stuffed you could have the motor run and disconnect one plug at a time and if the motor doesnt change then thats the one to look at.

After pulling the head off (again

) it turns out that one of the inlet valves was very slightly bent, hence me not noticing it when I first inspected the valves for wear and tear. Im hoping that this is the drama and will be sweet when I throw it all back together. New valves coming on friday so hopefully should all be sweet by Monday. Fingers, toes and everything else that can be, has been crossed......

Good to hear. Thats what it sounded like so i think your dramas will be solved. Double check the lining of the cams before starting by turning slowly by hand if you hear anything or feel resistance heck it out. Have fun

i hope you get it sorted man. my uncle has bought my cousin a hard top serria (<spelling?).. and i told him that we should chuck a 4age or even better a 4agze in it for her.

A swb sierra with a 4agze will pull wheelstands. Go the 4age fo sho. Having said that however, Ive never actually driven a 4agze sierra so its only conjecture on my part. If you do go down the GZE path then I would probably look at lengthening the wheelbase in order to get the power to the ground more efficiently. Drew off this board has a twincharged gze sierra with very good results but he has alot of work in it.
Incidentally hartops are the shit. In hindsight, I wish Id gone the tintop

The fuel was only pushing up past the spark plug on no4 cyl. which was fundly enough the cyl where the bent valve was so Im hoping this will be the end of it. I only noticed fuel out the cam cover bolts once after a prolonged period of trying to get it to rev. Again it was roughly inline with the no4 cyl.

It seems that every time I fix a problem on this bitch two more take its place but thats modified cars hey. I'll get the new valves in over the weekend and re-assemble everything and let ya'll know Monday/Tuesday.

the extra torque from the gze while 4wding would have to be benifitial i would think (not to mention on the road), but then a 4age over the standard sierra engine would have to be extremely noticable in sand etc.

i was going to s/c the feroza, ended up turbo'ing it. found it a simpler job to do. so far happy with the results on and off the road over stock. good forum outer limits.

when u fit the valves sit the heasd on its side and pour fuel down each port on both sides inlet and exhaust and see if any fuel leaks around the valves

if it does then u need to lap the valve in abit more
thats if your rebuilding head and not a proper machine shop

yeah the 4age is a huge increase in performance over the stock 1.3. Makes the car much nicer to drive too IMO.

At the moment I am halfway through rebuilding my outboard motor, 3/4s of the way through welding up a rollcage for a mate and building my little bro a bmx that he designed so I just dropped the head and valves off to an engineering shop and let them do it. This guy knows his shit so Im sure he'll lap the valves correctly but thanks for the heads up anyway
