The whole structure of the classes has to reorganised and the years of the cars defined better. You cannot have 73 model car competing against a 85 model car, and also you have to define what is orginal and what is super street.

The best idea for the show and shine would be, lump all 1st gen Celica's together, stock or not (a good orginal one will win all the time) and with all other models of that era they go by the year of manufactor.
Then go 2nd gen Celica, 3rd gen Celica and then FWD Celica's and with all other models they go by years as to fit in with the years.
Then you put in the special classes as per modification, as per paint, motor, interior and overall car.

It has always been the argument that the classes are all wrong, it is just a case of sitting down and working it out.
If you want people to go to Dubbo you have to encourage them to go and make it fair because it is a long way to go and to find out they cannot organise a car show or classes.

ps, the nationals were started by the celica car clubs, so use the celica as a base.

If the Celica car club was still running it I'd understand that but since they have nothing to do with organising the event I think it is entirely redundant. It's the Toyota National's not the Celica and other Toyota Nationals.

People nominated their own classes in terms of stock super street etc. I don't think there was any confucion in those terms at all. The confusion comes from there being a class listed for a trophy which was then apparently combined into another trophy.

The rest of this is in refference to concerns in general not specifically to Roscos.

Personally I don't really see the big problem with going to Dubbo for the Nationals unless your car is going to win a trophy. There is a lot moer to be gained from the event than just a trophy, including supporting the growth of an anthusiast base that you are a member of.

Myself, I went to the nationals to have fun with a heap of like minded people and check out the nice cars. The fact that I own a rather quick car and easily qualified for the quick 8 is nice but I didn't even contemplate that this would be the case or that I would be in line for any trophies. I didn't stay around for the quick 8 actually because I had had my fun and it was more enjoyable for me to leave and get back to the hotel. That I did actually win a trophy was great but I think the fact that I was not expecting or thinking I was "owed" it made it much more enjoyable.

Honestly I do think the show and shine at the nationals is judged in a somewhat strange way, and if I were running it there would be some different classes. However I do not run the show and unless you're willing to man up and do the work I don't think you can really complain too much. I get to judge cars in the way that I wanted for classes that I wanted at Toyota Fest since that's the show we run.

Please don't let this little storm in a tea cup over trophies detract from what was a great weekend. The show and shine, while it is 50% of the events that are actually organised for the nationals in reality is more like 10% of the Nationals experience.

    Roscoe,

Organising any event is always a dilema in terms of classes. You will never get a mix of classes everyone is happy with. Its just human nature that someone will always have a "better" suggestion. Toymods found this with our Dyno day classes, each year someone suggests and alternative and each year before we promote the event we evaluate what classes we have in accordance with what new Toyota engine capacities are available and how they will fit with what we have. We don't worry to much about what attends (ie if a class such as 4WD, has lowe netry numbers) as we want to encourage new attendance not just maintain what we have. We cater for what we feel is the theoretical best mix.

The same dilema is faced with a show and shine but its ALLOT harder to get the "right" mix. There is so much more than just engine capacities. Show cars come in a vast range of styles and extent of modifications. For ToyotaFest we have a completely different set of classes and judging style to that at the Toyota Nationals and if you go to someone elses show it will be different again. When you enter a Show and shine you accept the classes, judging style and structure that is chosen buy the organisers and outlined in the entry forms. If you don't like it, you don't enter it. Its pretty simple. The guys at the Toyota Nationals don't ridicule our class selections and we respect theres. Its there show !

The Celica Car club stopped putting in the required effort a long time ago and there are far more Non-Celica's than elica's so lets not dwell on history and support the great event that is now being held.

I really don't think anyone has complianed about the classes themselves - There are some valid questions and I am sure Grant will have Valid answers. Unless you have run an event of this nature you really can't imagine how much time and effort is required to get it right and it is really easy for minor errors to occur.

I really want to make a point that what appears to have been some minor issues don't detract from what was another great weekend away and an enjoyable event. I for one am already eaglery looking forward to next year and another Toyota Nationals.

Totally agree, I boldly suggest that next year they scrap the trophies altogether, there is so much more to the Nationals than the show n shine.

I for one will attend next year regardless of the changes, if any

Faark - you should have said that this year and last year - the nationals would have saved about $11,000,000 AUD for all of the trophies that you took

That will leave the raffle for winning nick knacks
    YelloRolla's KE20 1/4mi = 11.32 @ 119mph @ 22psi on slicks
    12.44 @ 113 mph on 165 wide street tyres
210rwkw - not bad for a smelly 3TGTE running pump fuel.
