It appears the century won your class river
Hi,
Interesting. The Nationals web site says that the "original" class is for stock pre-1986 models, and "stock" class is for post 86 vehicles.
When did it change to "Original/Stock", which appears to cover all years?
Judging by what I saw at the Show & Shine my old AE71 would of won the "original" class, let alone the RA25GT.
It appears that the trophy classes you specified in the application form and on the web-site are chopped and changed at will.
When and why was the "original" class award discarded? If I had of known before the event I would of taken the Vectra.
Also, how come there are multiple runner-ups for some things (ie super street class; forced induction 6cyl), yet no runner ups for the other classes?
It was a great weekend and good to socialise and meet up with the people, but crikey, the awards (change them, no runner ups, etc) suck.
As Hoff would say... I'm not angry, but I'm very disappointed, and a tad confused.

Hi,
So it seems, but I'm sure the Century is post 86?

Its a big event and was agreat weekend that takes allot of planning and organisation so I take my hat off to Dave and Grant and all involved for organising it. Its also really easy for minor errors or miscomunication to happen. I'm sure it will all be sorted out and make sence when Grant has time to deliver the offical word .

Yup, I'd really like to wait for Grant to deliver an "official" word instead of my constant guessing. I've popped him an email and asked he visit this thread as soon as he has a chance.
I was speaking to Jase on the weekend(after minigolf) and he wanted to find out how to get the trophy to Vanessa the lady that was awarded the award instead of Kylie, I can't remember how/why, but there is more to it than meets the eye for that one.
ONly thing I can think is Kylie wasn't driving her car when the time was set
Maybe, I know that it was driven by others during the day.
Anyway, enough comments from me, I'm going to stay out of it until we get some solid facts
nah kylie would of being driving it then, she was doing low and sub 9's next to the wagon

Actually Kylie was driving the car when the time was set. Johnny drove it once and ran a 9.0.Originally Posted by 7MA61

ummm another tiny prob
Vanessa Ford managed a 10.49 as well as her 10.84.
Got the time slip here for it too she will be quite annoyed is she sees it haha!

from what i can tell they both satisfy the criteria of the class. i mean no offense to either of the owners, just curious on how the judging works. what determines a modification, does the change of a front bar constitute a major body modification, and if so wouldn't that equate to the Super Street Class? it seems like a great event, just some confusion here and there which may cause a negative effect on the events attraction.
Cheers
I was also wondering the same thing, no offence to andrew, but there are so many nice pre '85 cars in the club and in the pictures from the event that satisfy the criteria?Originally Posted by da_horse
Also, even tho the build plate on the ST162 says it was built in '85, im pretty sure they were only sold here between '86 and '89? Does this mean that ST162's which are otherwise identical but built after '85 are inelegible?
I wondered who was going to bring this up... Huy, river's ride is classified as "stock" while mine would be classified as "street"...
so from that I deduce that a bodykit or part thereof wouldn't constitute a major change to body.SUPER STREET suits Toyotas fitted with non-optioned,larger capacity or turbo/ supercharged engines in addition to other major changes to body, suspension and interior.
Andy, I guess part of your post relates to my answer above as well. My car was entered as a car built in Nov. 85 regardless of it's classification of being an '86 model. The model year of most Toyota's these days quite often starts in the last quarter of the year before... if that makes any sense. I'm sure that if it were built in 1986 then it would be judged in the 1986-1999 section instead. That's my thinking of it anyway.
I spoke to the officials as well when I was awarded the trophy, but Grant assured me that it was definitely judged correctly.
Hi,
Andrew is correct. My vehicle was entered in the "original" class, which is for pre-86 vehicles.
I don't have an issue with anyone winning a class. If another vehicle, in the same class as mine beats me, then so be it.
However, I do have an issue when you pay for and enter a particular class, only to find out after the event the class you entered into was changed or removed. If there was no "original" class then I would not have entered the competition, saved myself a few dollars and would of driven a different vehicle all that distance to Dubbo.
At the end of the day I guess this sounds like whinging, which isn't my intent. I am trying to clarify what happened and why the classes were changed, plus I'd like to also know why some classes/events had multiple placement awards (6cyl forced) and others only got a 1st place (4cyl).
I don't want to detract from what was a great weekend and time spent by the organisers (in their spare time) in getting the event up and running. They put in a lot of hard work and I have much respect for their efforts. However, I feel the awards were, at best, handled with less finesse than the rest of the event.
