    Default MA45 Axle

    Howdy

So....i bent the left rear axle in my ma45, 81 Celica XX. Sigh.

It's got a T series dif, with discs.

Firstly...will the axle off a ta22 fit it? They're drum rear, so i wasnt sure if they would be the same or not. I have access to one.

Secondly...if the ta22 axle doesnt fit, what will fit? RA40/RA60 axle?

Also, what dif swap can I do? I know a G-series will bolt straight in, but it's a matter of getting one - il start looking, if by any chance the axel off my ma45 is one of a kind.

    Thanks, James

I'm pretty sure the RA40 axle is the same width; it's more or less the same chassis so it stands to reason.

There's no way a G series diff will "bolt straight in", not until you've cut the suspension mounts off it and welded on the MA45 mounts. But that applies to any diff really.

Sigh. Why do I have to have a rare car. Of course a g-series wont bolt straight in, different suspepnsion. The problem with just any g-series dif is the ratio

So about the ta22 axle?? Or does anyone know where I can find a wrecked RA40?

Are RA40's disc or drum rear?? And is that going to make a difference?

Some MA4x's have an F series diff, NOT G series.

And yeah just about every wrecker I've been to recently had at least half a dozen RA40's, you shouldn't have a problem finding one.

mmmm i thought they were G series???

Now do Cressida's have F series as well? If so...can i get the lsd dif out of a Cressy and put it in mine? Without any overly exorbitant hassle + spending?

RA40s are wider rear end as well. They are about 1350mm, as opposed to the 1320mm of the TA22.

Some Cressidas (eg MX73) have an F series diff but they're also IRS, hence of no use to you.

Basically your only plug-and-play option for a bigger diff is the F series found in MA46's, and good luck finding one of them. Apart from that you're looking at a full-blown rear end conversion.

on that note, RA60 and RA40 diffs are identical in every way. all RA60 diffs have sway bar mounts, however only the very late RA40's have sway bar mounts.

    same width.

The MA45 axles are totally different to anything else.

I would recommend getting your bent axle straightened. Easy and cheap, well, until you replace the bearing - you might get it all done for under $200. Take it to a diff place if you're not confident doing it yourself.

    Also needing my torque wrench.
