I think you'll find the SX sits a little lower and a little stiffer than the CSi.
As for whether it's worth swapping? Why would you put in 15 year old gear to replace 15 year old gear?
Were there any differences between the suspension in a sx corolla and a csi corolla ?
I'm guessing they were since the sx suspension needs to cope with the thicker anti-roll bars but can anyone confirm this ?
Better yet can anyone tell me the spring rates/damping rates of the sx and csi spec suspension?
And more importantly if it's worth swapping over ?
Thanks in advance.
PS. I've seached and couldn't find an answer.

AE90 Silvertop - GONE; 2001 ST215W GT-T Manual - SOLD; EP82 Starlet GT - Sold
Now driving 20V Turbo 1.8 N-S FWD
sx have a front swaybars csi don't
not really worth swapping springs over, better off getting some aftermarket items.
Spring height and rates are different, rear struts are different; sx runs the kyb struts as found in jap versions. (Insert vs replacement). This may mean different damping rates all round but can't confirm or deny, just a thought.
Swaybars as said. Yes, just buy all new stuff![]()

more to the point, why the question?
It's just I've got a running CSI with shagged suspension (probably due to me installing a front swaybar and a thicker rear) and I've got SX suspension sitting at home. Just deciding on whether its worth the effort of me changing them over.
-GT-
Are you saying the front struts are the same between the SX and CSI?
Ideally I would want to buy all new stuff but the funds don't permit right now. Also if I were to replace the shock absorbers would that replace the casing as well? Or do most companies simply sell the insert on its own ?
Thanks in advance.
depends on how old and how much work the sx gear has done! The front brakes will help!
Factory suspension is good for around 60k km on most toyotas, yes it will last longer, but i said good![]()
Can anyone confirm if the rear SX suspension are sealed units?
The SX I am dismantling seems to have sealed rear strut units where you can't replace the inserts. Are these stock from factory ? I seem to think so, but it doesn't agree with what -GT- said.
And for future reference SX front have replacable inserts whereas CSI front had sealed Monroe's made in Australia.
Thanks in advanced.
Sorry, i did mean the rears are sealed, i didn't specify that clearly up above. The rear sx struts are sealed kybs.
I thought the fronts were the same, i'm pretty sure i didn't have monroes in the front of mine. Possibly the fronts you've got have been replaced at some point?
I'm not 100% as i'm going from memory when i replaced my shocks 2-3 years ago. I remember the rear because we'd ordered koni inserts for the sx (cut n shut the strut) and when it came time to install found monroe replacement struts in the rear and had to search for original rear sx struts. I had no problems with the front so can't remember as much about them but i'm pretty certain they would've been the same all round the car, ie kybs.
As to replacements, some companies do inserts some do replacements. If you've got sx gear lying around and a spare arvo then i'd say yes, it will probably be better than the shagged csi gear you're currently running. Assuming its not equally as shagged.
Easiest and simplest would be if you have the sx struts to just swap struts out.

So -GT-, for the rear are you saying you were able to replace just the inserts ?
Because with the SX I've got, the rears seem to be a sealed unit with Toyota and some Japanese writing on it so I'll assume they're original. Unless the previous owner had the rears replaced with ones from a lower model Japanese Corolla (since the Australian 'pov spec' corolla's had monroes)?
So can anyone out there confirm that SX rear suspension came with replacable inserts? Or were they a sealed unit.
Nope, the factory rears are a sealed kyb unit, same as on the japanese corollas; hence the japanese writing. The aus spec base had monroes with replaceable inserts.
For the oz munroes companies make replacement inserts. Easy enough, and no reason to do anything else.
For the jap kybs, because they're sealed some companies make complete replacement struts, but the koni's (and possibly others) make a cut n shut insert, which means you have to cut the strut, rip out the old guts, put the new stuff in, and weld it back up again.
Sorry for using 'insert' in both versions of what i was saying earlier, i see how it's confusing![]()
