hey all
ive been looking on this site for specs bout the 18rc and i found out it puts out about 95 hp
but the 18r ( no emission crap ) puts out less power so if i remove the emission gear will i lose power

You'll find the differences between those two engines extend beyond the emissions gear. Removing the emissions gear on your engine may net you a tiny gain, but it's far more likely it will make no difference at all. Unless you have a specific reason to mess with it (eg something is broken), leave it alone.

The 18R puts out about 110hp. It is more powerful than the 18R-C.

the likelihood of finding an 18R still capable or producing 110hp at the flywheel is extremely remote (and only idiots like me are foolish enough to want to rebuild them).

As mentioned in other 18R threads: extractors, Ford Pinto webber carb and electronic ignition (from a 22Rx) is all you should bother with.

So quick question, does a webber 32/36 fit straight onto the 18r manifold?

Hope so, temporarily fitting the 18r i just bought into the RA23 and don't want to run the carby with so many damn vaccum hoses etc.

no - you need an adaptor plate for the webber as the manifold has the wrong bolt pattern.

carbi will work fine with the hoses ... just ignore them

Ok cool thanks, I should be able to make one up if one of the auto stores doesnt have one.

Are you saying the standard 18r carb will work fine if I just block all the hoses up?

If so I will do that until I can get/make the webber one. Got a box of webbers from a friend who played 2l escorts for years.

u should ask ur mate bout mechanical secondarys ull use allot of petrol bout ul also get a bit of go out of the std carbi

if you block everything up you wont get the secondary to open up or vacuum to the dizzi.

have a look at what each hose is doing then go from there... better still, borrow a celica manual as you can work out most of them from diagrams of carbis.

If you get stuck, i can loan you a manual (which you'll take good car of).

might be easier to head out to wacol ABC wreckers and look under the bonnet of something 18RC powered and take pen/pencil with you.

Hey, nice quick replies tonight

I have the 18r/rg toyota green book so will read it more in the morning.

There is/was actually 2 RA23/s out at the boundary road wreckers with 18rc's but the carbs were gone on both.

I am going to diagram where everything is connected before I pull the motor out tomorrow.

That is after I pull my damaged RG block apart.

I will have to check all the webbers. I know most were water choke but I think there was some of the electric/manual chokes there too. Not sure if any of the webbers had the mechanical secondarys.

things to worry about (and plug in where shown above):
advance port (hook directly to dizzi)
charcoal cannister (needs to see vacuum when engine running)
TP diaphram (just hook it up directly - stops car stalling when you take foot off throttle at low rpm - not manditory)
choke breaker (only if your auto choke is actually working)
EGR valve directly to the EGR port (block the line so it never sees vacuum)
PCV valve (manditory - otherwise front/rear engine seals will leak oil)

not shown, but there is a breather pipe that goes from rocker cover to air filter - you need this.
