3TGTE cams - worth upgrading if using mild turbo

hi folks,

a query from a qld club member - he's got a stock (but rebuilt) 3T-GTE in a '22 - the old turbo is showing it's age and he's thinking of upgrading the huffer. The injectors are stock, as is the whole intake.

Is it worth his while getting a different cam grind - or is that something should only consider if the whole induction system is being replaced.

Of the 3TGTE conversions on this site already, none (of those i found) have mentioned replacing cams with different grinds.

The car is primarily a show pony but has an strong driveline.

No, theres no need to replace the cams. I'm still running completely stock internals and am getting 145rwkw. I have bigger injectors, intercooler, custom exhaust, GT25 turbo etc...

He is better off replacing the turbo, injectors and ECU if its still stock. Then after that a set of forged pistons.

I just noticed your from QLD. Whats the Celica club like there? I'm now in Perth and hardly ever see other TA22's on the road, that was a huge change for me after leaving Adelaide.

I'll be moving to Brisbane shortly, would be nice to meet some other Celica fans,...

simon: we're a small club but there's a few older celicas around the traps and quite a few owners in the club. Some info about us here: http://www.toyotacarclub.org.au/

i'll let the dude know about cams - it'll help him spend money on more suitable things (like a more modern ECU instead of using his ancient E6S haltech)
