    Default Rim Job Q's... (melb)

I noticed one of my tyres going flat recently. They are only 6 months old, so took it back to Beaurepaires where I got them for their routine rotation balnce etc. I asked them to check this particular tyre coz it was needing to be inflated weekly (ie down to 10psi)

They old me the tyre was fine and it was my rim leaking. and "it often happens with 'cheap' rims"!!! cheeky hua's...

My question is, where in Melb are good (or any) mag repair shops on the south side??? and how much do you think id be looking at paying?

Also the rims have pink/red lip on them that I want machined off; is that also possible??

    ta, Brett

Can't help you with finding a place to get them fixed but i munted a wheel pretty bad a while ago and i took it to get fixed. Cost me $180 approx to fix a fair amount of damage then sand it back and paint it. By the sound of things you have less work involved so i would imagine a lower cost. Have a look in yellow/white pages for wheels and their should be a category for wheel repairers.

    Advance wheel repair service..

it's in the southlands area.. moorabin or something can't remember exactly.. if they can't fix it then u're better off with a new set..

tyre shops should be able to direct you there.. was told by Donnelans (sp?) and TTF in dandenong about it..

price wise, they are very reasonable.. but at this point they have saved quite a few rare rims, with the worst crash damage and they've done a pretty good job fixing it.. so my "reasonable price" might not be what you're willing to pay..

There is a place in Moorabbin called Ajax wheels. I haven't used them my self but i've heard good things about them. Check the white pages for there number.

nah the tyre shop water tested it and it was leaking out the rim itself.

Spoke t Advance wheel repair service, not too helpful; quoted $100-200 without seeing it and hung up on me haha lol

Also tried Apex mag wheels blah blah and they gave me instructions on how to fix it myself with aluminium filler.. fuck thAT! I want it repaired for me, not have to sand it back and fill it etc etc....

    USELESS twats!

I don't know if you have an actual chunk or so taken out of the rim that you think it is leaking from, but if it all looks normal and is leaking then you could paint the inside of your rim and try that.
Rims that are old can leak through the metal pores or if the original coat wears off in places. Can be a cheap fix too.

i've spoken to both Neway wheels in Heidleberg and to the mob in morabbin as well, but only brought my rim to Neway wheels on recommendation from a mate. they did a great job but a bit far for me to travel. reason why they need to see the wheel is that there are too many variables that can cause the leaking, i know i need to bring one of mine soonish cos i've got a similar issue to you. i'll bring it to Advance wheel repairs in Moorraabbiinn and see how they go...

ummm what about warranty for workmanship? If there is no claim that you damaged the wheel get them to replace it?
