    Wink 3TGTE In a TA22 NEED HELP!!!

    hey,
Im running a 3tgte in a 75 ta22, and the engine sat for around a year before we installed it, and now that its in and running (well for a lil while at a time) we cant get it to run right at all. When you start the engine it will idle right up, run rich and miss and do so for around a minute or two and then stall. The car is actually at my work (mechanics workshop) and we have tested fuel pressure which was fine, spark which was fine, and then my boss has been going over the car with a scan tool trying to find a fault in the wiring and it all seems ok, but he reckons we need another 3tgte diagram to compare it too and if anyone knows what sensors should be running certain values? i mean we found that the temp sender unit was running at 4.5v when usually they should be running between 1 and 2v (according to him) and we have been trying to find out this info for ages to no avail and the car has been in the shop for 3 month, so any help or advice would really be appreciated....

    Cheers
    Scott

All the info you need is on my site under "3T GTE info" , including full diagrams.

Sounds like the engine is running on the cold start injector which is mounted under the plenum. I'd put money on it that your problem is blocked injectors. Take them out, get them flow checked and try again.

yeah, I agree with Simon, sounds like cold start injectors and then once that cuts out after the ecu thinks it's warm there's nothing from the normal injectors....

    Hey,
well all the injectors have already been removed, cleaned and flow tested which they all were fine....also that info on 3tgte's i already have and its useless as i need to know what values the sensors should be running on a normal 3tgte so i can compare them to mine and possibly find the fault. Also its nowhere near as simple as a injector being blocked....everything like that has already been checked and thats why we think i may have a faulty sensor somewhere. But if anyone could give me more information on the cold start injector set-up it would be really appreciated...and i still need those wiring diagrams so anyone out there with a 3tgte please help!!

    Cheers

    Dude,
You won't find much more info than whats on my site.....
What sensors are you talking about? The fuel cut, fuel enrichment sensors etc all just go to earth so I'm not sure what values you're trying to find?

    Cheers,
    Simon

Maybe your ECU isn't wired properly or is faulty. was the engine running properly a year ago without any changes since that time?

Try testing your injectors by getting an injector plug off an old loom, take off the wire clip (as it makes placing it off and on easier), test each individual injector with a 9 volt battery, just by making and breaking the circuit (9 volts will not hurt the injector). It sounds as though running on the cold start injector from what you say and from my personal experience.
The only other time I experienced a similar problem was that the return line (from the reg) was blocked (it actually got crimped accidentally when we replaced the motor in a friends car.
Try also disconnecting the fuel to the rail and making sure that you have a steady stream. Was the flip/flop relay installed for the pump drive? Was it installed correctly?
I cannot see any sensor input causing the symptom that you describe.
    YelloRolla's KE20 1/4mi = 11.32 @ 119mph @ 22psi on slicks
    12.44 @ 113 mph on 165 wide street tyres
210rwkw - not bad for a smelly 3TGTE running pump fuel.

righto, well i was after the values of the sensors as thats what my boss asked to find because he has been going over it with the carman vg scanner and is finding small blemishes in some of the sensors. But anyways we i first got the engine in, i realised there was no fuel coming out of the return due to a blocked line but we fixed and made sure the entire fuel system worked well. So which leaves us with the cold start injection...and possibly something else faulty....lol damn this is frustrating!! Anyways just thought it might be worth asking about, but would a faulty ignitor cause these problems, as i think the two wires coming from the dizzy which give injector pulse and igniton signal go into the igniter, and i was going to see if anyone knew if they are the same on something like a 22re...anyways thanks for all your help guys..

    Cheers

Hey simon well we have already sent the ECU away to have checked and it come back fine...also all the wiring has been tested and everything seems to be working when they are meant to be, so which really leaves me standing there stratching my head as too what to do next, so any suggestions would really help as im ready to just start changing stuff around in the hope i find it....

No - I doubt it. Have you pulsed the injectors (today) to be doubly sure that they are doing their thing? Check everything in the fuel circuit again.

No spark = no start. It is starting so this is not your problem, I cannot picture in my mind why the spark might "go away" after 2 seconds of running. The reluctor in the dizzy may be changed for other Toyota ones (I think that I used the 22RE one, or similar once before). BUT - the reluctor is not the issue here.
