Default brake pads running off edge of disk?

Last week we changed the pads on nath's celica and noticed that the pads run off the edge of the rotor, the result is this:

These pads were on a standard ST162 front brake setup. It has DBA rotors which have a beveled edge on them (standard ones dont). I'm going to have a similar problem with my ST185 brake conversion in the future too as the rotors have a small bevel on the edge and the pads sit about 1mm higher than the rotor.

Is there anything we can do to fix this? I thought of two things, maybe the retaining clips are fubar or last resort i could file the edge of the pad down (after buying non-asbestos pads ofcourse).

    Any ideas?

it defineately looks like the pads are not sitting in the caliper correctly, the pad ends have a chrome guide clip for them to go into the caliper, they dont come with new pads unfortuneately.

the other thing it could be is that the wrong pads were used or you were sold the wrong type.

I would defineately check out the caliper seats though mate.

so would you think that taking them to a place to get realined would help fix this problem? as they should get them seated etc correctly?

Its not rocket sicence. On the inside pad, there's 3 clips. One on each side and one on the top/bottom which ever way you look at it. On the outside one there's 2 clips, both on the side's of the pads.

    put them back in and

its not a problem, sometimes aftermarket pads dont quite line up as they should
wont do any harm what so ever,

if your really woirried then just grind off the adge of the friction material so it doesnt hang over

yeah, thats what I was hoping was the case - better to play it safe and ask the experts rather than be sorry. Nath, were your brakes making weird noises / squealing before we changed the pads? Because of the edge of that rotor I dont think there's a lot you can do about it. If it becomes a problem you're welcome to take my old (square edged) rotors.

    Thanks guys.
