Default Buying some new piston rings

Ey guys, i need to replace the piston rings in my 7m. It's got oversized Ross forgies in it ( though i'm yet to find out how much they are oversized.)

I have found Ross piston rings for sale on a US site, but i'm more interested in getting some of those Total seal gapless rings. Has anybody had any experience with them? Is it likey i'd be able to get them to suit my non-standard pistons, i'm guesing so. Does anyone know if they require special tools to install?

    Cheers all,
    Ashlin.

avoid total seal rings in a 7m at all costs.

reason: the alloy composition of the 7m block does not lend itself to the honing technique required by the total seal rings to bed properly. they then leak MASSIFLY

this is a known issue with total seal rings (7m specific), and aknowledged by them in a round about way

So there won't be any design diference between the rings? just metallurgy properties (if thats the word) and treatments?

unless ross do something very funky with their ring lands, different ring brands and designs should interchange.

the ring needs to sit into the land, and when flush, you should be able to see daylight above and behind the ring in the land...

now it might be worth checking with ross that this is the case

ive got a 7m piston and ring sitting in front of me here if you want me to measure the ring and land depth etc etc

    cheers

Talk to Austral Distributing. Sydney - 95345466 [no I don't have any association] They have a prodigious range of rings. Ask if moly inlay top ring is suitable and whether OE rated oil ring or aftermarket tension oil ring is best. Let me know how you go.
