I got an exedy HHD 5 puck ceramic one
works really well, cost $490
just spent the last 2 weeks putting a 1gg into my e30 bm with a nice little tube manifold and HKS 2540, is200 6 speed and wolf 3D
well i got it going on the weekend, not fully tuned yet but itsVERY strong!
problem arose straight away the clutch appears to be slipping on anything over 12psi
the one im using looks quite new it came from the importer when i bought the engine,
faint possability it could be an atmo one i dont know
anyone know of a straight fit clutch thats a tad stronger doesnt cost the earth and who / where to get one in NSW
my first play with a 1gg so have little knowlege or contacts for whats available what works and whats interchangable? .... love it already![]()

I've used a Centerforce clutch behind my 1GGZE for years and never had any slip issues.

PBR heavy duty are about 250 ish.
i havent had any problems with mine yet. running 16psi.
no problems at the drags the other night either....and i definately wasnt going easy on it
hello
I have a heavy duty Exedy clutch plate on an uprated factory pressure plate. It cops 18psi every day, and hasn't failed me with multiple passes to the drags and over 25000km of driving.

I think that you are going to experience problems with any stock organic clutch. One thing that I have seen that seems to work well is using twin diaphragms fitted to the stock pressure plate. The problem is finding a clutch place that knows what they're doing and will do it for you.
OS Giken twin plate is quite nice to use, I much prefer it over the old ceramic button that I had. My wife actually preferred the ceramic (note: this means ceramic = girl's clutch, so should be good enough for you). Car was used for everyday street driving and I put over 150,000m of everyday street driving on the ceramic clutch BUT I would not go back to it from my twin plate if I could help it at all.
YelloRolla's KE20 1/4mi = 11.32 @ 119mph @ 22psi on slicks
12.44 @ 113 mph on 165 wide street tyres
210rwkw - not bad for a smelly 3TGTE running pump fuel.
cheers for all your input
i think ive narrowed down what i want
puck style ..... too harsh
twin plate ...... too expensive
all im looking for is an affordable upgraded prerssure plate, im only looking at mild combo 15psi or so its not a race car and i DONT want something thats hard to push
call me soft but im into comfort.... i have a race car
this sounds good who did the upgrade to the factory pressure plate? cost?Originally Posted by JustCallMeOrlando
and whats the pedal like??
i would emagine that having twin diaphrams fitted as mentioned would make it really heavy on the foot

Can't tell you how much the Centerforce clutch cost new as I bought it 2nd hand. It looks like a normal single plate clutch with the exception that it has weights on the fingers. At idle the clutch feels normal but as you rev, the weights fly outwards and exert increased pressure on the clutch face. As I said, it's behind a 1GGZE and has never slipped (and it's an organic clutch plate).
For your interest though, puck style clutches have come a long way in recent years. They are not like the harsh clutches of 10 years ago. I suggest talking to a specialist brake and clutch supplier. There are a few in sydney but not sure of the names. Perhaps someone can list some.
I rang up a place in Perth called "The Clutch Factory" and they hooked me up. Cost $418 in the end from memory, including new clutch plate, uprated pressure plate, machined flywheel, new thrust bearing...hehe, and they painted it purple for the bling i'll never seeOriginally Posted by 1jzracing

I have a Daikin / Exedy cushioned button setup. ie. Twin plate brass button with cushion jammed between. Could be comprimise if you dont want it to be too harsh. Uprated pressure plate didn't cost the earth. Whats your budget?
Oh, forgot to mention it's firm, but far from hard, very nice to use. It's my daily driver, and my gf never complains about the clutch driving it.

What is it with these companies painting clutch pressure plates purpleACS do that as well with the Xtreme range!
I've got some exedy organic clutch plate with xtreme heavy duty pressure plate. Can't remember the price sorry, but there are many more options out there now. Clamp load is probably the main thing to look out for, as long as you don't destroy the slave cylinder!
Maybe a cusion button is the answer?
