A few close calls though, when two cops appear travelling the opposite direction, and we're still squeezing it to get past trucks before the overtaking lane runs out.Originally Posted by thechuckster

was good to see a few aw11s there and just a huge variety of toyotas in general.
It can be a bit of a mission to get there, but thats half the fun I reckon

Sorry we disappointed you with our choice of transport. But when Toyota Corporate offered to sponsor our entry this year they insisted we tow the SUPRA everywhere ( yes I know an unusual model - your ignorance is excused), something to do with brand exposure etc etc. Anyhow they were more than generous and we are deeply gratefull for all the support provided by Steve Lawson and TOYOTA CORPORATE and the crew from TOYOTA GENUINE PARTS at Toyota Headquarters in Cronulla.Originally Posted by sarcastic loser
Anyhow, the supra could have easily driven if it weren't for a specific request of a major sponsor. Im sure you complied with all your sponsors requests for the weekend too.
Rather than a "Sprinter" we prefer to think of the supra as ... a 500+hp Supra, And the concept of "ringing its neck" on the hway on double points weekend just a little stupid ( but not surprising from an 18rg driver).
Its a shame River couldnt stay for the Drags to see another side of the Toyota Community, those of the "built not bought" school. Yes - "original" cars are "bought" and only maintained, "built" requires ingenuity, blood, sweat and tears. Not to mention Mates to lend a hand.
The Supra ran the second fastest pass of the day and was the fastest 6 cylinder overall.
It qualified 2nd and 8th outright ( by co-driver Matt).
The only car to run faster was the little Yellow Rolla.
Targa Tasmania has its great characters like "Gentleman Jim" Richards, this year more than ever Toyota Nationals had its own "Gentleman Jase" Myers, the fastest and fairest of them all. Thanks Jason for your efforts in the best spirit of competition, keep sorting that beast cos 2007 is coming round fast!
As it turns out, the weekend was the perfect end to an epic effort from everyone involved.
Only 1 week ago the Supra had no computer, no wiring loom, no intercooler, no injectors, no fuel system, no intake plenum, no diff and no rear diff cradle. In the long days that followed a highly generous group came together to put the beast back together tougher than ever including the following mods Autronic Computer with CDI, Custom cooler, modded intake plenum, Braided fuel lines, Twin Walbro pumps, mech locker diff, and a fresh diff cradle.
Thanks must go out to Joe Lyovic (J&J Engineering), Anthony Collins (Turbotechnics), Jamie Holmes (JT Racing), Aaron (Auto One Newcastle), Sheedy (Mr Stiches) as well as Craig, Matt, Joey, Reido, and Cheeky for all the outstanding work and support to bring it all together so efficiently.
Pics to follow soon.
Great work andrew, it looked awesomely lose on one pass down the strip and i was like![]()

Heya....
Yeah Andy, another typical Dubbo - everything done at the last minute. its the best thing about the nationals, the team spirit in the lead up (the event is almost more like relief it is over hehe).
i remember my first trip out... all our cars on the side of the road, people i barely knew helpin, craig resoldering my fuel pump on side of the road, everyone taking all my gear so there was less weight..... awesome.
Top effort at the drags mate, the supra has come a long way in the last 2 years (as have everyones cars from the times that were run) will be good to see her run down at wsid where she can give a REAL account of herself.
ohh and the GTR.... it wasn't actually allowed to enter toyota nationals being a nissan, so it wasn't 2nd fastest as such. though it did run 7.4 sec that weekend..... so you figure out where it fits...![]()
Cheers

Hi,
My write-up was in fun and humour. So don't take it the wrong way. If it offended you then I apoligise. You gotta admit, it would of been a damn nice car to drive to Dubbo.Originally Posted by incompetent pin-head who's overly sponsored car cannot win a race

Due to other commitments I could not stay for the drags, but it is something I hope to plan next time and hopefully see your beast chew up the tar. And, I would of loved to see Jason out there kicking some butt also.
I agree with you in regards to the work, sweat and ingenuity in making a modified car. However, I think you underestimate the effort and cost that goes into maintaining a rare and original imported vehicle - especially one that is now over 30 years old. Should you have an accident or something breaks, you can rebuild it or make a new part - and it appears you also get the assistance of your sponsor. Unfortunately in my case I do not have the luxury of being able to get non-geniune parts (ie exact parts for the vehicle to ensure it remains truly original), I have to find and source parts myself - the body panels and original trim items are extremely rare (especially to find in good condition), command a premium price and need to be imported. It's a pity that despite numerous emails and phone calls, Toyota seems totally uninterested (they never returned my calls or replied to my correspondance) in assisting me in keeping one of their historic vehicles (the only officially imported RA25GT into Australia) in original condition and road worthy.
Furthermore, as a member of Toymods (with the emphasis on "mods") dont think that I haven't seen the effort, work and money involved in many of the clubs vehicles. Matter of fact, an original unmodded Toyota is a rarity within the club.
Despite double-dermits or not, I can't beleive that you drive a road registered 500hp car around the streets at a sedate 50kph and have never gunned it or had a few moments of joyous spirited driving.![]()
You slagged quite a few members with your sweeping statement regarding 18RG drivers. If you have a beef with me then fine, but there's no need to fire a broadside at these people.
Anyway, good to see the vehicle performed and you got back safe.

Awwww c'mon guys, Rivers account was bloody funny in the extreme and had me rolling around the floor laughing. Getting any car, modified or not to Dubbo in one piece is a feat in itself. If I had a choice I would definately put my baby on a trailer as the roads are pretty rough and by the time we got home my glovebox lid wouldn't shut, the sun visor kept falling down, my mobile went awol under the seat somewhere and trying to have a drink of water just resulted in me having my own wet t-shirt competition.![]()
His wasn't the only car trailered, it just got the attention as it took up a fair section of the carpark (how will we go next year if we get one of the big car transporters!!!!), the other trailers were hiding and ONE particular very nice car came with its own fully enclosed trailer-which I would have killed for when it started to rain on Friday night. It doesn't matter how it got there as long as its in one piece and with licence in tact!!!
Thanks River for bringing your car, for me it was a treat to see such a rare celica and to have had two 25's turn up was superb. And as I was doing the entry forms I was privvy to such info before anyone else-perks!!

I hope to see all of you again in 2007, driven, trailered, towed!?flown, or trained who cares just be there. Cheers
...well said River.......me thinks someone got a little too upset and felt the need to have a go at what 99.9% of people thought was an amusing and well written article........keep up the good work i say and thanks for so eloquently putting your point forward on the maintanence and upkeep of the classics.....how many supras will be seeing in the condition of your car in 30 years time??

I couldn't have said it any better myself, the problem with text is sometimes its hard to tell what the writer was intending. Hopefully old man River will be there for the whole weekend next year and will get to know a few more of the guys and the cars that are usually "below his radar" Andrews Supra is a real credit to him and the last minute efforts are an awesome example of what the nationals is all about.Originally Posted by Gypsy23

I know Stitts wagon was a bent wreck with a 7MGE in it in january, My wagon was a stocker in October last year and just a rolling shell 3 weeks before Easter, Jason and Johnny did more T series engine work in the 2 weeks before dubbo than most engine shops do in 2 years and from all acounts Andy's supra got more work in a week than your adverage race team after a DNF.
My only complaint about the weekend was that there just isn't enough hours in the day as I didn't get to spend anywhere near as much time as I would have liked catching up with everyone, especially the guys from Newcastle, Canberra and in general the non sydney people.
Funny you should mention the trailer thing, It was great to see all the other entrants preventing the parking crisses by leaving there tow cars and trailers parked next door. I guess nobody told Andrew![]()
