    Default A40D Auto Question

    Hi,
Can someone tell me which of the following is the overdrive solenoid on my A40D auto box:

It is the one with four wires and the gear selector arm going through it, located on the right side of the box

    or

The piece with one wire going into it, that looks like a little oil valve inside it, located on the left side of the box, toward the back of it.

I will try to post pics of the items, if no one is sure what I am talking about.

    Thanks,
    Joel.

The one which the gear selector arms goes through is the gear position sensor/reverse light switch/neutral start switch.

So i would guess the other one which is the little oil valve to be the overdrive solenoid.

I would have to agree with 7M-GTE. The gear selector arm goes through the inhibitor switch, which only leaves the oil valve thingy to be what your looking for. Though normally all the shift solenoids are inside the trans in the valve body.

That is the case with the electronically controlled transmissions, but the A40D is a hydraulic unit, the only electrical control is for the overdrive unit.

Wouldn't that mean there would be more wires running to the gearbox then?
If the solenoids are inside the box itself?
