How does teh is200 box last with a tuned 1G? I heard they were a little fragile?

Also what flywheel are you using? The is200 one has a built in slip system to dampen the clutch...

True. The original flywheel from the vvti 1gfe has some sort of a damper in it. ( have a pic posted on the old toymods forum )
My clutch was slipping everytime I floor the stock gen3 1ggte. Changed to a normal flywheel and a hilux clutch but using the original pressure plate, felt a bit better but must lengthen the rod on the slave pump coz the flywheel is much thinner. Still slip a bit.
So I took out the pins on the flywheel, had my friend skimmed a bit the outer part ( not the clutch contact part ) for the pressure plate to sit a bit deeper, now it is working fine.

i got one of the daiken heavy duty organic, aparently it used the same pressure plate as the ceramic one mentioned above, aprox 40% more clamping so should be perfect.

best part only cost $185 trade for the whole kit

not installed yet will keep you informed as to how it goes

I have a hilux diesel pressure plate and clutch. It hasnt slipped yet and for some reason the pedal is lighter than my mums corolla, i think the pedal travel is longer on my soarer though. I just went to a clutch guy to get something that fit the only thing is I think I have a 7MGE flywheel on there. It cost $250, just go to a clutch shop and tell them what you want and look at your options.

    Bargain!

Big Rob - The HiLux diesel one, is that a "4Y engine code" clutch?
    YelloRolla's KE20 1/4mi = 11.32 @ 119mph @ 22psi on slicks
    12.44 @ 113 mph on 165 wide street tyres
210rwkw - not bad for a smelly 3TGTE running pump fuel.

mate i am not sure. I saw this guy selling a GA70 clutch on ebay through his shop and just took my flywheel down there and it turned out it didnt match. So we just fitted stuff till it did turns out a hilux diesel fitted and since it was diesel i tohught it would carry a bit of extra load. Whats a 4y 2.4lt, I remember it being off something similar to that capacity.

I am not sure of what a 4Y even is. I supplied a clutch for an import that also suited the 4Y. That is why I was asking.

as a (not so) random question, and sort of on topic... how expensive are the friction surfaces on twin-plate clutches to replace?

I'm looking at buying a second hand one... but I want to know whether it's worth it

Just looked at some hilux info on the net and the only engine I can find in a 2.4lt diesel is the 2L series but it makes no torque and power. Max 170nm at 2200 rpm, I wonder if this thing is it but i doubt it. Maybe it was a 2.8, that seems to be more common.

    Rama,

Do you have a part no. for that kit. I've just pulled the old 22R out of the Hilux and I think I might replace the clutch while I'm at it.

    Thanks,
    Peter

I rode my HD clutch once (although quite exsessively) and it slipped on the high way. the stock 1G NA one melted fast and i now have a 5 puck sprung center. it takes a little getting used to but half the time you wouldn't notice i had one, they arn't as bad as you may think.

I've been running a Hilux clutch in my Drift GZ all year, no problems at all & thats been at 280-320odd bhp all season. I've done about 8k miles driving to & from events too.

This thing has had some serious 4th gear clutch kicking abuse too!

Its still in one piece!! & looking good lol

Don't know if this applies anymore, but when I got my exedy / daikin clutch I'm pretty sure it said if you dont get the flywheel machined then the warranty is void on the clutch. Not sure if that's the case anymore but just thought I'd mention it just in case.
