Bad earth. Check all your cables and connections for corrosion.
I tried to fire over the RA40 over the weekend (it's been sitting idle for about the last 6 month) and despite putting in a brand new battery the starter motor and all the electricals were dead - not even a click of the started solenoid. The clock and the interior lights were working, so power was getting through, but when I tried to turn on the headlights or hazard lights, the relays emitted a wierd buzzing noise.
Anyone have any ideas what's going on?

Thanks Norbie, would it be -ve on the battery, started cable, or just all cables in general?

The relevant one here would be battery to engine block, but also check battery to body and body to block.

yeah - buzzing sounds was most likely the h/light relays trying to click open - check your cabling - also make sure you have all the +12v power connectors at the battery well connected.
From memory there's a fat cable for the starter and then 2 or 3 wires that come up to a fusable link then that connects to the battery.
Also check that the battery terminals are clean and tight.
