Hey guys just finished putting an 18RG in my 83 4x4 Hilux. Just wondering whats the smallest oil filter i could use, because i had to make a custom throttle linkage cause i had a set of ALFA solex carby's and there not enough room for the normal long filter. Plus just wondering what the firing order is, i think it 1, 2, 4, 3 but not sure. Any help would be great. Thanks Dave.

I used to use a 2JZ-GTE oil filter on my 18R-GEU, which was short enough to clear the EFI plenum.

yeah ive sorted everything engine firing good. all left now if ajusting the solex's so it accually idles. haha, this shall be fun considering never seeing a solex or any of its kind before
What is it doing to not idle?Originally Posted by ganador
Is it just a matter of turning in the idle stop on the throttle linkage?
yeah i know nothing about solex carbs, ive got alfa solex's if that makes any difference. haha.
I think its just the mixtures that need ajusting cause it runs if hold the throttle just a smigen, ill try and get my mechanic to come over some day if i cant get it going myself.
If it's just the mixtures, then on the top of each barrel, and near the head end of the barrel, is a little screw with a little arrow on the top of it, grip on the outside of it, and has a spring underneath... That is your idle mixture screw...
Adjust all four (1 each barrel) to give a smooth idle...
cheers buddy, i'll give that a go.Originally Posted by twentyEight

ok, yeah i accually ment to circle the ones you circled i wasnt looking at the pic properly haha. so do i winde them out all the way then work my way in or the oposite. the motor is really chuggy aswell so i dont knw what that isOriginally Posted by twentyEight
Wind all the way in, and then back out. 1 to 1.5 turns is about right for most engines. If its still nasty, then you might need different idle jets.
