picsorban!!!
coz i dun believe a flwheel can be that close to the sump...
my flywheel is touching my sump.... im scared...if my motors stuffed i WILL cry !!!!!
what does it mean and how bad is it....it rubs evenly against it the whole time i turn it over so i dont think its a warped flywheel.....the motor supposedly ran fine

coz i dun believe a flwheel can be that close to the sump...
Research has shown child in front seat causes accidents, accident in back seat causes child
i havent got a camera but the back of the sump... the lip of it is rubbing against the front of the fly wheel and i looked at that blown 7m i have for comparison and that 1 is a little further away, but every half turn it rubs...so its warped where as the good 1 in my supra rubs the whole time :S sum1 helpppp lol..... i cant handle ne more bad news on this car
This is a wild shot, but with the 3sge motor there is a plate that you bolt up to the gearbox which blocks up a big window where the engine and gearbox mate. That plate can on occasions get out of shape and touch the flywheel. I can't remember if the 7m had this plate as well. (i reckon it does)
Either way the flywheel isn't going to touch the sump unless the sump has been severaly distorted, or the flywheel has become warped to not fastened properly. Neither of which i doubt is the case.

thanks for the help, unfortunately that little plate isnt on atmimagine the sump up under the car....and around the outside u have the flat edge that all the bolts go thru, the edge of that is rubbing up against the flywheel...ill get picks up tomoro.... its not a warp problem either cause it does it the whole time it turns, thanks for your help +rep, Dave
how odd! yes pics would be great. Crank walk maybe? Hmm will have a think about that one.

You have this question in "General Car Talk" so I have just copied my comment to this thread.
Just a small note. The flywheel bolts to the end of the crankshaft and should not matter what gearbox is being fixed to it. Changing gearboxes should have no bearing on the flywheel position. If this is now the case you might have bolted the flywheel on around the wrong way moving it closer to the engine.
If it feels good "DO IT" Unless it harms others.(or upsets the RTA)
Enjoy what you have To Day,cause you can't take it with you.

yeah a mechanic suggested that today... the story is the car was running and that the gearbox was stolen ( why ne1 would go to the trouble to steal a 7m auto is beyond me cause it was slipping like shit newayz ) . so theres no reason the ring gear shuld be on backwards...its looking more like someone has fiddled with it and left the spacer off unless we have smartass thieves who steal ur box, taking ur ringgear off then remove the spacer and bolt it back together and giggle at the thought of u trying to work it out. i took a pic on my phone ...it is Major shit quality but better than nothingOriginally Posted by hi-ace

bottom half is the sump top half is the ring gear ...lol...anyway just ripped the ringgear of and its buckledproblem solved..how much am i looking at to get it machined or am i better of replacing it from a wreckers...thanks for all your help

maybe just replace whole flywheel.. perhaps the engine was dropped onto the flywheel at some stage, knocking the ring gear off?
the story of someone stealing the gearbox sounds very very very dodgy.
