Tape will do the job but is generally used for larger bore piping. For small bore piping ie. instrumentation etc thread sealant is the standard. Reason being that tape can find its way into pipework and block off flow, particularly if the joint is taken apart frequently or the tape is not wound on in the correct direction.

LOCTITE 567 is also used in the plumbing industrie, also you should wrap your fitting at least once or twice with teflon then add loctite,

    also guys

if you every buy teflon from a plumbers supplie

    white is the thinnest

    pink being in the middle

yellow being the thickest ( used for gas but made from same material )

It should also be noted that petrol dissolves plumbers tape. I tested this out by dropping some tape in a jar of petrol.... it was pretty fucked in a couple of days.

Remember on the old forums I asked these very same questions, and this is how I found my trusty Loctite 567...... I have since been using 567 for ALL my sealing threads with a 100% success rate.

Remember - plumbers tape is not really designed for petrol.... because petrol is a rather strong solvent it invariably dissolves the tape and leaves you with a leaky mess and potential 3rd degree burns. (ghey)

Loctite 567 is made to withstand petrol, gas, oil and pressures up to an insane 10,000psi (or something equally ridiculous) - you should use no other product to seal your threads

Excellent product. Would buy again. AAAA+++++

Now I know the difference between my white and pink plumbers tape - all this time I just thought the pink stuff was to keep the ghey plumbers happy

Agreed, worked wonders on my brass oil fittings with tapered threads.

I used 3bond thread sealing compound for my threaded fittings. Mind you the instructions are not so great it's translated from japanese and says to "Apply correct amount". A bit of defining of correct wouldn't go astray but it does seem to work very well.

I am sure as long as you "apply correct amount" and "correctly tighten" then it will correctly good

there is a plumbers glue out there called "stag" or something to that effect. apparently its fuel resistant. its in a tube and the glue is bright red.

maybe DQKIST knows more about it?

i used to use it for carby gaskets...
sticky and messy and smells great

i can't remember if it is non-hardening or not, but i would check it out further if i was going to use it in a pressurised system... (i vaguely recal it is non-hardening? )

the 567 effectively becomes a solid polymer that fills the thread gaps, and can't be pushed out...

^ Can it be removed somehow if you wanted to clean the threads/re apply?

A mate of mine used teflon white tape on a ferry fuel system and was mid pacific in a cessna 182 and saw small pieces of white tape start to go down the clear fuel lines.

About that time the engine quit and he ditched out near Hawaii.

if you must use it lay it against the thread direction and not too close to the end of the thread.
