calling all you 5m-e speciallists! work this one out

if its auto check your torque converter bolts, this happened in my vp and made horrible noise that gotta worse the higher the rev and yeah sounded like a stuffed motor....or take off all your belts and run it for a few seconds just to hear if its nething else....if it does it with the belts off then it may be something internal or elsewhere on the motor, if it doesnt do it then its something bolt on. these are just suggestions, hope they helped, Dave

Remove all the belts and try it again.
Just do it quick, coz no Alt belt = no waterpump.

If it doesn't do it, put the belts on one at a time until it does.
If its still does it, look elsewhere.

How much weight is on the inlet manifold? Is there a brace that supports it? If the brace isn't there sometimes there can be a vibration which occurs at a certain frequency. Check that the support is still there and still tight..

Check the water pump. I had two shafts snap when the bearings shagged out. Symptoms were almost identical. the fan falls into the radiator when the shaft snaps.

Grab the fan and see if the pump shaft moves when you wiggle the fan.

ok back to 5m problem i noticed my water pump squirting water into the fan when revved upto bout 4500, got a new one on order. also the racq guy said that the front left wheel bearing needed replacing when i bought the car. is it possibly the wheel? i was free revving it today and couldnt feel the vibrations anymore, omfgWTF? so i dunno its a real head fuk.
