    Default manual trans coolers?

a guy asked me if you can use trans coolers on manual boxes.
Id say race teams and so would but im not sure about general applications for the street. Id say you would have to have a small pump for the oil to flow round.
Has anyone done this and howd they do it.
    this has me stumped

Yes a lot of race teams use a diff oil cooler and pump set-up, not sure about the gearbox but im sure you could use the same sort of system, It would be as simple as finding an outlet & inlet for the box and having a elec oil pump to circulate the oil through your desired cooler, there are slim line coolers available for small areas like undernieth the car, not sure if you would need a resoviour or not.

I wouldnt bother with it on the road, what car is this for? what problems does he have if he feels this is the solution?

a manual trans cooler kit is that what you looking for?
Ive never heard of a kit either.
If you did it its not hard to rig up a kit, just a drill, tap, 90 degree fittings, cooler, elec pump and some wires hooked to the ignition or even a switch like a thermo fan.
    Really why would you bother.

the E series boxes have a sitting with a loop pipe that can be attached to an external cooler. iirc the gt4s have them stock. and they actaully have an internal oil pump...

but this of course will be box dependant.

Check the Goss pump catalogue - there's a pump listed in there, and from memory it isn't THAT expensive. First thing, of course, would be to check temps and see if it's actually needed...

Trans coolers are fairly common in circuit racers where the transmission cops a hammering for extended periods - and as we all know, heat is the big killer of all mechanical components.

For street use though you'd never get the transmission hot enough for long enough to make a cooler worthwhile.

other reason to have a cooler... well a pump anyway, is to spray the oil directly on the gears themselves.... (and perhaps bearigns)
