Default Registering a vehicle in NSW, with a slightly older engine then car ?

i am possibly purchasing an interstate car, and bringing it to NSW to register, it was registred in VIC, is a 96 rolla with a 20valve silvertop.
am i able to register it in NSW ie Pass blue slip with the car, even though i think production ended in 95 on the 20valve ? it has had all upgrades and brakes as well.
and is same capacity as what was in it, 4afe to 4age.
i should be able to register it as replacement motor ?

heya, just make sure you have the receipts for the car (body) and motor. The rta registry wouldnt let me register my celica because i bought it as a bare shell with no receipt.

If you have a receipt from the previous registered owner of thye car, and you have the current rego plates with the correct engine number all should be good.
The inspector will only be looking for matching number, vehicle to paperwork. The engine is still a 4A, the engine number still starts with the prefix 4A.
Do not volunteer any information, other than what is asked.

    cheers Chuck.

as long as the engine meets the emissions of the car of that year.. all good...

    dunno

but the rule is (basically) that you cannot make the emissions of either the car or the engine worse.. whichever is newer.
then agian, this assumes that you transfer the whole engine and emissions and controls over, including intake and exhaust etc... and not many people do that

i guess you would have to show that the emissions in japan at the time, were better than the emissions of the car it is going into...

the 2J was still sold at least until this year... so there is some scope for putting 2J's into new cars

But from that perspecitive there would definately be some older motors that are more emissions friendly than other newer motors be it from a different model or not.

    that is true.
the rule is to stop people making their cars emissions (or the engines emissions) worse...

so an older motor with better or same emissions as the car is all good

Considering the IS was sold here with a JZ anyway (IS300, 2JZGE), that would make things a heck of a lot easier.
