Default w58 gear selector- More Issues!

I have recently put the 1G into the ra28 and have noticed that the gearbox has a little issue. The nylon or plastic guides or seats in the top where the selector fits in are cracked and look like the will break up into little pieces. The selector is a little wobbly as a result when it is bolted in. Does anyone know if this is an easy fix and if and where replacements are available?

    Cheers.

I had a play around with the two new parts i picked up today. Thanks for the info, very helpful.

Turns out that not only the white cap and the green seat are buggered, but also the bush that the white nylon cap sits into. Does anyone know the part number for this one?

The seat i got looks different from the original, however seems to do exactly the same thing.
Ill post pics of what i mean.

    Cheers.

To the best of my knowledge you cannot just replace that bush with a new one from Toyota.

You actually have to remove the metal bit from the gearbox (requires removing the rear half of the gearbox), press it out, and have a new custom one made up.

Very few people have bothered doing this, most have just put up with a semi sloppy shifter like yours.

Ah. Thats a bit of a bummer. Has anyone else had any luck trying to fix this? What about some sort of sleeve over the white nylon bush?

    thanks CrUZida.

The other option is to replace your new toyota "white" bush with one turned up in nylon to account for the larger hole.

Recently fitted a w57 with close ratios to an ae86 rallycar.
When fitting the lever we didnt pop the ball of the shifter into the gearbox selector.
The endresult was a chewed bush and slightly scored selector.

Make sure when the lever is pushed in and bolted down that you apply pressure straight down to pop that puppy in!

While were on the topicm, anyone know where i can get a W5x quick shift off the shelf?
    Its needed urgently, cash waiting.

both myself and geln had/have custom machined steel sleeves in our w58s to replace that fuxxor'd bush - makes them very damn crisp

The bush int he selector arm def isn't available seperatly - gotta bu the whole arm and they're pricey.
I made up a new nylon insert for the selector arm, and araldited it in place. Made a huge improvement to the shift quality. I had the box in bits anyway, but if you were careful you could possibly get the old bush out of the arm without dissassembly, although it would be easy to damage the selector arm or the alloy housing if you used the wrong kind of force getting it out....

Don't worry about turning up the white bush, just buy that one from Toyota. Dellow sell the item that it sits into (just a steel sleeve as has been mentioned) for about $10-$15.

im guessing he means an oversized one Jase, to counter the effect of the worn steel bush in the shift yoke:

Correct. I have got the bush from Toyota, i fitted it all up yesterday and it doesn't feel too bad. I could certainly put up with it. It will be on my to-do list at some stage but it all seems perfectly functional at the moment so i might focus on some more pressing issues like getting all my wiring sorted and getting the bloody thing running. Thanks for all the input guys, very helpful!
