Default Urgent help with M series gearbox (PROBLEM FIXED)

Hey guys i got a bit of a problem with my w58.
I bought the gearbox from a trustworthy member on these forums for a conversion. now i took it to a gearbox place to have it checked over and cleaned up and have just started to put it in and the bolt pattern doesnt line up. its surpost to be a ma61 supra box and bell housing. I suspect the gearbox place has done a dodgy on me and given me some other crap. Now the dowls are on opposite side and the bolt spacing on the 2 top bolts is different, the one on the 5m is 125 centre to centre and the one on the gearbox is 143 centre to centre. The starter is on the same side but offset more on the gearbox. does anybody know what this bell housing is?

At the top of the bellhousing you should see a small stamp that indicates what motor it is suited for.

Ok, after speaking with rod we have ruled out m series, g series and j series, so maybe its an s series

The slave cylinder is on the correct side for a G series.

Incidentl;y gys I just got a new W58 for my GA-70 supra, I have noticed a slight bit of side to side play in the shaft that goes through the clutch... Is this normal? I know when it is in situ it will be supported by various bearings, but it still seems worrying!

Twas my old gearbox out of WOTTHE, definitely came to you with an M series bell housing, If memory serves it was only pulled out of the car the day before you picked it up from Lindens! Dont know what youve got there now, but I'd be having a chat with the gearbox shop.

Oh, and as you say, yes, Mseries stud patterns are all the same so the bellhousing from my 7M would go straight onto your 5M (or 6M, cant remember what you have just that it's twin cam ).

    As GT says.

It will have R, Y, S, G, M, or JZ on the outer rim (same face where the bolts go).

You might miss it the first few times around, but its definately there.

He found mine, such a load off, i thought i was going to be stuck with no bell housing and a car in pieces.
So i had a good look at them for markings as Peewee and GT suggested, i found the M on my bell housing and the other box definately had an L on it. what would an L be from?

Thanks to those that chipped in some advice

An L series engine of course. Bellhousing probably from a G series box.

Good to hear you are sorted.
