yea well the intake shouldnt be too much trouble my uncle should be able to fix it up or even make something better for me. but yeah could be alittle different to all the other conversions out there.
Chris
Aye, go for the 3VZFE, you might need a bit of fab work on the intake, but should be fine other than that.

That's cool mate.
looking at it practically I think the 18RGEUs sweet spot of value is between 80-100RWKW. I still don't think you'll find a cheaper way (i mean total cost... not just engine package) to get that sort of power in an early celica.
I guess the 3VZ is probably going to be outside that power range, so might end up a better option for you.
I just find it strange that the reason you don't want a 1G-GTE (bang-for-your-buck champion!) is the few hundred bucks a year extra it will cost on insurance. Yet your not concerned about doing a unique, possibly even the premiere (read: expensive and troublesome), 3VZ conversion into a 28 that will give you insurance worries anyway. And I accept you get free labour on the fabrication side, but you shrug of brake upgrades and engineeering certificates as if they can be found on every street corner for $200!![]()
Not having a go at you mate... just trying to understand where you're coming from.
I do actually wish you the best in a 3VZ conversion... no doubt it would be great when it's finally finished!
na i understand what your saying mate, got most of the stuff i need for brake upgrade lined up. i know a bloke who does engineering and stuff so that should all good. now with the 1g-gte its not just the extra insurance cost its just that my parents aint exactly going to be willing to help out as much with it money wise if im putting ina twin turbo engine plus if i get 1g i will probably kill myself lol plus im only 17 at the moment finding an insurance company to insure a p plater with a twin turbo engineered car isnt going to be cheap or easy. its gonna be more than a few more hundred a year. im just tryin to be realistic (i know it doesnt sound like it lol) but i know where ur coming from thanks for the advice mate, still just looking into stuff may still go the 1g-gte but if i can find something cheaper or easier(not the 18rg) im gonna go for it. otherwiser i'll just take my time and do the 1g over time and hopefully have it done by the time im off my p's

yeah... being 17 sux for car mods huh? I'm just getting past that stage of my life, but i dunno if cheap insurance is worth gettin' old for
Sorry mate, i've got no suggestions for whats a good performance conversion for a 17yo male. Think you gonna get raped either way!
Just get 3rd party property and accept any damage you do to ur car is ur own fault??? Do what i did and drive a gutless FWD car on the road for 5 years to get a good record, and get ur adrenaline hit from racing something else at the track???
Ok... me got no ideas, lets see what other ppl suggest![]()
Chris; see my above post for cheap comprehensive insurance. If GIO have the same thing in SA, this should take the high insurance factor out of your conversion considerations.
Got good condition 23/28 bonnet hinges? pm me
i dont do anything stupid on the roads im just sick of this 18r pos, its slow, loud, and chews thru the petrol, i just want something semi decent like a nice na v6. had a bad crash in my mums van (tyre popped going 65 down grand junction road and hit a stobey pole head on at 60km) so i know how easily shit happens which is why i dont do stupid shit on the streets, maybe make the tyres squeak coming off at the lights with ay mates but yeah im gonna get raped either way i got but i cant stand this 18r![]()

btw: 18RGUE would require engineering as you're changing the induction/fuel system to EFI from carbi.
Cheers mate

Kugzs, why is that insurance so cheap? Are you sure its comprehensive?
It seems too good to be true, where do they make their profit? The excesses?
And Chris what 18RG powered cars have you been in? I can take you for a drive in my dad's RA28 to change your mind.
Ace
Yep definitely comprehensive. I know i thought it was too good to be true so i went over all the fine print twice and it still seemed good. Excesses seemed average. Maybe they rationalize it by saying, if the car has been around for that long, the chances of it getting written off now are less than average.Originally Posted by ace
