Lock Nuts

I swear i remember reading a big thread about them, but i couldnt fint it with the search function.

Now i know most lock nuts are useless ie, the hex type ones with a socket that fits over the hex bolt. On my new wheels, the sockets are resessed in about 2 inches into the wheel and require a thin socket to fit over them. Im think, a lock nut of the type that needs a bit to go inside a patern rather than over it is the go, but have no idea where to buy some GOOD lock nuts.

Any ideas? Its to make it harder because in the end someone skilled can get anything off.

a wheely good wheel shop should have some wheely good wheel nuts. IE dont go to bob jane or supercrap auto, as they will sell you some super crap wheel nuts. Yeah, the inside ones are the go, especially if you have recessed wheels. One of those one size fits all sockets would do away with most outer lock wheel nuts.

just weld the stud to the rim or a dirty big bird shit weld after the wheel nut and buy some spray foam for if you get a flat! you know you love me!bahahahahaa

there are good locknuts and bad ones (of course) (ie ones easy to get off with other tools)
and some good ones are bad if they are too common..
put it this way.. if you have a set of locknuts, where someone can easily buy the same set of locknuts to get the tool... and then take your wheels.. they aren't very good are they
so get good looking (hard to get off with common tools), but uncommon, ones...
if you don't plan to take them off very often, perhaps filling the bit the tools goes into with a glue that is relatively easy to get out later... might deter people even further...

depends if it is a teenybopper detterent... or if you REALLY don't want the rims to be stolen at all...


or you could weld the nut to the rim like professionals

personally i like the Rays lock nuts, all nuts are the normal 6 side type, then the lock nut is a 7 sided nut. pity they cost too much

In the end, the best defence is
a) not parking anywhere dodge
b) never leave car on the street over night
c) Have a very good alarm then senses proximity and impact.

If you are really worried about your wheels then you're probably best off checking out what is commonly available locally (e.g. from Repco, Supercheap, Autobarn, Tyre shops etc.) and then do a google search for locknuts and find something available in the states etc that isn't available or similar to anything available here.

Hi,

Just buy 4-sets from SuperCheap (or similar outlet), but make sure they all have different keys. Put one of each sort on your wheels. Chances are anyone won't have all 4 keys to take them.

Oh... did I just embarass myself with such a dumb suggestion?

Hah river... i will definately be running more than one set... but in the end, someone just goes and buys 10 /however many sets is the max combination and has every key to every lock nut...
