my commodore has non wishbone LCA's and thats called a K-frame - hence my terminology.
thanks for the clarification.
TA22s didnt have K frames. They had crossmembers. K frames are found when you have a wishbone style lower control arm to set the toe in, whereas the TA22 used a strut bar to allow adjustable toe. Just thought I would clarify that so that you didnt confuse anyone.Originally Posted by Grega

Earlier commos did have K frames, the terminology carried on from then... doesnt mean its correct. The newer commos also have Z bars instead of strut bars... makes me frustrated when ppl call strut bars Z bars

any updates of late???
Chuck, Merc-blue, anyone??
Hey Jack, nothing has happened with this at my end. I was tinkering with this on an old shell before it went to the metal recyclers. That is why I started the thread way back then. My plot, it to use a shortened KE70 rack, with the ball ends turned dopwn to suit, that will ensure I still have the same turning circle. I will of course be paying very strict attention to the positioning of the rack, fore and aft, and height wise. ie. up close to the standard crossmember, and at about the same height as the original draglink. I will have a quick re read of the thread before I do this of course. But I will not be attacking this for at least 12 months. Too many cars, not enough time!!!!
Jack, drop me an email at [email protected] and I will forward you a very informative email I got from an engineer at HSV.
cheers Chuck.

hey mate i actually have a ta22 with a rack and pinion setup in it. my motor is also out at the moment so it easily visable. only problem is i bought the car like this and i'm not sure what the rack is from. but if you want any info or pics let me know and i'll do my best
steve-O, pics would be great, we may even be able to find out what rack was used. A couple of detail pics of the steering column joining the rack would be awesome as well.
thanks Chuck.

Chuck, if i can get a KE70 R&P into the KE you can do same easily in a 22. Pop around some time and i'll let you in on the secret![]()

'Tis really great to have all the other guys working away in their sheds. I went through the whole TA22/RA23 brake upgrade, and then met a bloke who had just done the exact same thing, a few weeks ahead of me. This was many many years ago.
Justen, thanks for the offer, will give you a call, and bring the "box brownie"
cheers Chuck.

No pics of a 22 Stu but the same principles apply. Eventually i'll have a members ride thread for the KE10....only took a coupla years to get one sorted for the GT8![]()

Ill expect one in 2009 then
Watching this keenly seeing i need secondary transport amd KP starlets are cheap and available over here - the 85 and 86 spoonters till have too much takumi tax attached to them , or are rusted to hell

KP Starlets are awesome with huge weapon potential...even with turbo 2Ts in them they are running sub 10 1/4's or cutting quick circuit times in the US. Throw a little tech at one and you have a fun all rounder....start shipping back to Oz will ya![]()

heh - The group A gets the goodies but a low tech 2t turbo or a 4ag one would be fun .. most of the * nice * ones seem to be 4ag converted or K motors..
As for shipping to oz - ive already fired off a set of oz rims for a fellow gt4 ian![]()

Ive got same as Joel KE70 cross shortened in ra28.Originally Posted by merc-blue

As it sits its given me at least -1 to -2 deg neg camber.
KE70 bolts in nearly and all reaches. Apparently KE has a pinch point that you can pry
loose to lengthen the final arm to reach the rack.
I used RA60 Manual Rack (Pwr and manual rack / columns differ) which has slide adjustable arm and the uni shares same threads as KE.
Will have pics soon.
Havent had full alignment or a proper drive yet so cant comment on feel.
