As Timma has already pointed out, the 3VZ gearbox is perfect, aslong its the manual of course . Just FYI, the gearbox i sourced was $550 (incl GST), and had seals and gaskets replaced. So maybe try to talk them down a bit. I'd only pay that much if it were the LSD MR2 variant.

Here's some other pics i dug up of the gearbox when i first got it, and some pics of it after i was done with it.

Also there is a V6 on ebay, conditions are if you by it you have to give me the front lip LOL

Bidding on this now but it sounds like it needs a new engine blowing gray smoke (thats oil).

I read it's a bad brake booster that causes gray smoke, as burning engine oil is blue.

As per PM, need to know the engine thats in it. But for now, i'll assume its a VZV21.
In which case, a 2VZ is the only thing that will bolt in without drama's. I've never persoanlly seen it, but a 4VZ is supposed to be able to fit in there also and all connects to the wiring loom, however these engines are not available in Australia and would have to be imported.
A 3VZ is another possibility and you'd pick up that extra 0.5L..giving you that little bit more. This engine also bolts up to the E153 (as it's what it's used on in Camry's). Once again, i've never seen it done.
A 1MZ also will bolt up to the E153, but won't bolt into the car, so it would be a custom jobbie. These can be found in later model Camry's and Avalon's.
I've been told the brand new 2GR will bolt up to the E153, but once again, same as above..custom jobbie. You need to weigh up the costs.
2VZ's are rare as flying pigs, and can be expensive (i was quoted $1700 'change over'), and eventually found one for alot less, because i knew the people there.
3VZ's are a bit more common and you might pick one up for $1500 or so. 1MZ go for a whole lot more (was quote $3500 with loom/ecu etc) and 2GR's...well...no idea..you'd be talking bit dollors.
All these will bolt up with your gearbox choice (E153), so it's all about how much custom work you want to do, mechanically and electrically, and also how much $$$ you have to purchase the motor!.
$800 is also a tad expensive for a Camry E153 (maybe for a LSD MR2 .. but) and i'd be looking around a bit more. I got mine for $550, and has all new seals.

And if the Camry you got is a SV21 (3S engine)..then either way it will require custom work, since the left side of the engine bay where the engine mounts needs to be changed to a VZV chassis. And of course, the wiring loom etc.
    Kind Regards,
    Kurt.

Apologies if certain parts don’t make entire sense as it was written “on the fly” in a thread over a few weeks.

For those that don't know, the swap is from an A540E 4 Speed Auto to an E153 5 Speed Manual on a 2VZ-FE V6, 1988 Toyota Camry.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Parts List-

    - E153 5 Speed Transaxle [mine was the single syncro, long ratio box from a 1993 Camry V6]
    -
    .

Having trouble locating the exact car that has the 5 speed using parts search locator,
Do you have the model number of a v6 camry with 5 speed manual?
    Thanks
