anywhere, its a bolt in conversion.. theres that much info on this conversion its not funny. a mod plate needs to be done yes....
Hi all,
I'm considering a 3SGTE engine for my Gen4 which is currently running the 5SFE.
Any ideas which workshop in Perth, WA would be able to do this conversion?
I assume that there needs to be an engineer's cert for insurance purposes?
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks

Thanks for the info guys...
Can anyone tell me if I can reuse a 5SFE auto box or must I get the V6 Camry box? I heard that the V6 box bolts straight in to the 3SGTE.
BeRad - what is a mod plate? Sorry for the stupid question.
The 5SFE box will bolt up, but probably won't last very long against a 3SGTE which has around double the power.
mod plate is a plate that you get put on your car to let authoritarians know that the conversion is engineered, in other words, legal.
you'll need to get it engineered via a mechanical engineer.
the conversion is bolt in, hell, i could do it!

ha of course, that's a mod plate...what was I thinking about...or maybe I wasn't thinkingOriginally Posted by EldarO
Anyway yes, I am aware that this swap needs to be engineered.
Cheers
Thanks for the info. I was suspecting so anyway...Originally Posted by spectral
What would be my options if I wanted to keep the car an auto? Use the V6 box?
Or convert it to manual by getting the box that comes with the 3SGTE? Would the box fit in straight into the Camry or would major mods need to be done.
Cheers
are you sure its a bolt in affair? the 5sfe and 3sgte are different blocks so you may need new engine mounts accordingly.
in regards to the box, i'm not familiar with the mods needed to run an original auto box with a change to the engine only. but if you were to use go with a manual swap, u'd be fine using the e153 of the V6 models, but that said there are other guys that have used the camry box without any trouble. it all depends how u drive.
if you find a gen4 v6 manual camry, and got the box and mounts off that, then it might be fine, but i think you should factor in the aspect that there might be some customisation required.
btw you might want to state that its a gen4 camry not gen4 celica its a direct bolt in for gen 4 celicas, not camry's

good luck with the conversion mate.. erm i'd suggest if you can get frontcut, that'd be good.. or are u just looking at the engine? frontcut reason being has everything u'd need including gearbox and drive-shafts, loom etc etc
Research has shown child in front seat causes accidents, accident in back seat causes child
i think the mounts, both block and the actual rubber mounts, can be swapped and changed betweent he two motors to fab something decent up.
i mean, if wildsupra can make a 1UZFE fit in an old crown that held a 5ME, im sure this is doable.
i could actually be interested in doing this in 5-6 weeks, depends on the timeframe, vios, we could work something out...

HAHAH eldar..........
Everything is so simple until you try and do it and realise it isnt as straight forward as you first thought.
Have you considered the wiring? not that hard if you have some idea of electrics, however its not plug and play.
Also exhaust will need doing cos that wont be straight bolt on either.
You may be able to swap and change various mounts to make it bolt in. But that will be trial and error.
I dunno if the driveshafts will be a straight swap from celica to camry......is the wheel track the same?
If you buy engine only make sure you get the silly things like igniter packs, injector resistor pack and other electrical bits.
Also i think the 3s and 5s crossmember are completely different, especially if you use the LSD gearbox....which are extremely hard to find by the way.
I have a complete 3s-gte and e153 LSD box here with wiring, ecu etc etc, currently in a car and running if you are interested, although you will still need mounts and bits and pieces to make it fit your camry.

from what i've read on another forum this guys wants it to be a direct bolt in conversion. but how many types of conversions of these are out there?
5sfe manual box will bolt to the 3sgte, whether it'll take the power or not it'll be up to him.
driveshafts are different, but you may be able to mix and match dependingly.
so vivioman, its not a direct bolt in plug up conversion. as i said, do some research about the conversion, theres plenty of info from other forums on it, but dont keep thinking that it'll be a simple drop in. not many conversions are.
