its heavyer, its thicker then the blacktop, the blacktop is a tooth pick compered to the 7afe, and the 7afe is a tooth pick compared to the smallport rods

I am doing a 7AGTE for my race car for next season as the class I race in is 0 -1800cc turbo, so i might as well be as close to 1800 as i can.

I have the engine dummy assembled in my garage. apart from the head surface being 17mm above where it normally is there's not much difference in the mounts.

I am just finishing off another small project that I will sell to fund the build process.
Will be doing rods, pistons etc etc, as unless I can get at least 380hp @18psi, it won't be worth it.

I have a Blactop head and blacktop oil pump and cambelt tensioner, which means that a standard 16V 4age Belt fits on perfect.

I'm collecting bits to do the same thing.
    Though only about 17psi boost.

Default 7AGE :: longer rods than stock....

    Hi,
I am considering a 7AG(Z)E just for a bit more torque and drivability over my SC14'd 4AGZE (and bolt in) and also lower boost = more effciency for same torque etc..

I was thinking about getting custom longer rods (same price as after market 7A rods) which are say 4mm longer thean stock 7A rods and then some pistons that have the wrist pin 4mm higher. This gives a rod stroke ratio slightly better than a 4A (1.6 vs 1.58). Can anyone comment about the viability of doing this? Or who to talk to about the pistons?

My thoughts are (as nearly an engine novice) that ROD/STROKE ratio is considered on every real performance engine and I have heard lots of people say 7A's dont like revs as much.
To be honest MY 7AGZE isn't going to be revving mega hard anyway (though I do have an Autorotor SC sitting beside my desk!!) but if I can do this for about the same cost as a mildy built 7A I figure I might try it.

    Cheers, Nick

    I currently run a 1600 Turbo 4AGE 20V,

But the class I'm in run from 0 to 1800cc Turbo
and has a class boost limit of 18 psi,
so instead of running a low comp ratio and high boost to get the power,
I am aiming for 1800cc, just under 10:1 comp ratio and 17.9psi boost.

Well the 7A with the 8.9:1 CR GZE pistons will do you fine then. It works out at about 9.7CR.

Is that with a 16V head?

When I assembled and measure it all with standard 7A rods and the Blacktop 20V head,
with a standard head gasket is 9.03:1.

The pistons dont quite make it all the way to the top of the bore.

16v head, and the 7AFE headgasket, rather than the 4AG one.

Thats got the rods covered, but its a pity 7 extra ribs cant be bought for the 7A block this is my concern about forced inducting the 7A, I know people can reach 300hp, but even so is there unreasonable wear because the block isn't as rigid as a 4A block?
