MTEU (charging) wiring diagram anyone?

hi folks,

i've put an alternator from an MTEU into my 18RTE (btw this is a 95% bolt-in job with only basic wiring changes and lengthening of the adjustor arm) but the charge light is something of a mystery.

With engine off, charge light works as per normal - but once engine is running it works the ooposite as you would expect - gets brighter with rpm and fades/dies as engein is stalling. The unit is charging the battery so i'm reasonably confident it is working.

Does anyone have a wiring diagram for a MTEU powered mobile that shows how the charge light is set up?

At the moment, i have the charge light going directly to the pin the back of the alternator... and i'm guessing the factory setup uses some kind of relay?

It might be the same as JCMO's!

He has a "Battery is OK" light...!

A relay to invert it could be an option...?

Is the the actual MTEU one charles (am guessing that it is)? or the Other one that I gave you (thinking back that one might be external regulator...)

Haha, it does indeed sounds like mine "If the light is on, all is good. When it goes off, you have problems". Ironically, it went off, and I didn't notice it, mind you, I was too busy wondering why my car was driving like ass.

wilbo: is MTEU alternator - 3 pin connector plus larger terminal for battery. A simple relay might be the go then

JCMO: did the light come on when engine was not running but keyswitch was on IGN?

Unfortunately I don't have an MTEU wiring diagram. But I could try and source an MEU wiring diagram from an MA45 for you. Will take a few days....

dont bother with that alternator , they are very unreliable like the 5m series 1 alt , shite
Regs stuff up all the time and thats what will be wrong with yours

The reason i'm sticking with it is:
-fits the 18R mount on the block (pulley is forward by about 1-1.5mm)
-is same carcass as 5ME MX62 Cressida (but not MA61 5ME - go figure)
-only modification (apart from wiring) was to lengthen the adjusting arm
... and it's easy to replace.

but advice about unreliability of regulator noted.

Sorry, Toymods was down right up until I left for dinner. As soon as I flick the ignition on my charge light comes on, then stays on when running.
