As i said ealier these motors are hard to break, 300hp is nothing compared to what these motors can take, and it would have to be an absolute gronk doing the tune work if the motor did require forged pistons at this power level.
I will also agree with this comment. Providing said engine is in good health to start woth that is.Originally Posted by emp?

I will jump in here and say that I wouldn't be going for much more than 350-400rwhp through a manual with a very good tune with stock bottom ends, having been through 6 of them, and finally working out their weaknesses and where the limit lies, take my word on not going past this power level without some serious oil system modification and research. They have poor oil flow, and simply destroy big ends due to not having enough oil by the time its fed the mains.
Don't think the first engine you destroy some bearings in it was the tune either, its usually not, the factory pistons will break before that, I made the mistake of destoying another 2 stock bottom ends at the power levels my car makes in about 6 runs on the dyno becuase I thought it was the tune, we stuck a heap of fuel in it and pulled 10 degrees out of it, and still, the same thing happened. Fixed the oiling system, and now 20 pulls on the dyno, a few 9 sec runs on the board, and 3 oil filters being cut open and the engine is spotless with another 12 degrees of timing back in and far less fuel. You've all been warned!!

I think the 1G community has been waiting for someone to do what you've done with your car. There are countless people and companies out there who have worked and tuned the hell out of everything from the 7M to the *JZ engines to the CAs and SRs and RBs....but until now no-one knew anything about the upper limits of the 1G; it was all guess work. By having someone do the work and the research (and break HOW MANY???? blocks) in the process is something very valuable, and the fact that you are so willing to share your info with us is fantastic.
For what it's worth, well done on your times, it sounds like they've been a long time coming.
ive got too second chows comments, well done in not only doing all the hard work but also willing too share your results and experiences
i gave you a call about 6 months ago, on advice on building a 1g, and you were all full of giving good information, its a credit too you and your car well done, and thanx from a lot of people on here![]()

cheers steve,
24 hours in a day, 24 beers in a case..................coincidence?

Haha, thanks mate. I guess the best way to look at it is how much money and time it would have save me had I had this info before. Even more so, how much heartache every time I broke something, have a look at the pic of my engine bay in the other thread, and take teh time to realsie the care needed to pull engines in and out numerous times, it makes a 5 hour job a 20 hour job![]()
Over the next week or 2 I will be doing a big how to and where to buy thread for the 1G, it will certainly change the lives of some people out there building an engine, from where to purchase complete aftermarket gasket kits cheaply, to what bearings from other engines fit, to what mods are needed to the oil system, head, and generally where the limits of various components are. Maybe even a list of what hp you can expect from various turbos and at what rpm they will spool like.
Anyway, keep an eye out guys, and if anyone has any questions pease feel free to pm me, I'm always too happy to help, although sometimes might not get back to you for a few days![]()

LOL!! good work... -and it will be hugely appretiated as my 1G engine build has taken forever because I couldn't seem to get anything, had to go stock toyota for everything in the end
It was oil starvation that killed my engine in the first place, -to the big ends, more specificly no. 6. This happened because a company that sold me some faulty/leaky turbos decided to "fix" them by emptying two cans of oil thickener into the engine... before then it was very healthy!
had the block re surfaced, crank/pulley/fly all balanced, bores honed, new rings, new oil pump, heat rebuilt with a mild port and flow and valve job so fingers crossed this one will prove reliable! its my first engine build... and I am trying to play it all by teh book, I'd have loved ARP rod and main studs too but funds have totally dried up now...
How can the oil system be improved? I am guessing tha the puny factory oil cooler is not up to much, and I suspect that oil losing viscosity due to high temps has something to do with it, but thats just a gut feeling.. I will be upgrading to an oil to air cooler on a thermostat after christmas (in prep for my nurburgring trip in may!)
As said above, its great to see someone giving teh 1G the time and thought that it deserves! Top man!!!
P.S. I hope you don't mind, I popped a brief thread up about your car on my forum... Giving the 1G some love.. I'm fed up of 7M this and 1jz that(I know I have had cars with both in the past lol)
