does anyone know if any company stocks forged pistons for a 1GGTE, save getting them custom made and a wait of up to 7 weeks ???

hehe wat sort of power are you planning on making, u could buy 2 wrecked motors atleast for the price of forgies, tuned correctly these motors are hard to break.

when I was enquiring about building my first 1GGTE (I later ditched the project because 1JZ was easier and cheaper) I spoke with CP and Wiseco, wisco never got back to me and CP were pretty sure they had a listing for them...thbis was 2 years ago though...you might wanna get in contact with CP pistons and find out if they can get them

What was the total cost of that? Do you have a list of mods on your car and the hp figure?

Out of interest, what kind of power have people got before, reliable on stock pistons/rods/crank on a gen 3? I keep hearing how tough they are!

I am aout to go and put my stockers in.... crank is already in and I can't afford forgies!

theres a place in sydney who make custom pistons, australian precision engine parts... APEP. they made a friend of mines pistons. and can't fault them im 99% sure they make alot of the popular brand pistons also. cost him 1100 for the pistons , pins and perfect seal gapless rings. on a 4 banger so add a bit more for a 6. but i dare say it wouldnt be half that amount again.

has been said above, but the 1g is one very tough engine....

Wiseco used to stock 1G forged pistons, I have used a set in a previous engine. CP have a list for them, as I have a set sitting in my cupboard, unfortunately they didn't make them to what I wanted, I wanted the pin height raised 1mm so I could offset grind teh crank to stroke it.

They cost me $1400, they are flat top, which raises the compression slightly from 8.2:1 to about 9.0:1, and the valve reliefs have been made far larger to accomodate bigger cams or valves. I MAY be convinced to get rid of them for considerably less than I paid for them so I can get the ones I actually want if you want some. Pm though rather than post here as its not a for sale area.

Failing that, yes my car has stock pistons and has run a 9.7, BUT, how long the pistons will last is anyones guess, and I worry about them letting go every time I race or dyno it, its not the ring lands, but the skirts, they have quite large oil drain back slots in the sides and look like they would be quite weak under constant abuse, high revs or HP. I'm about to tune the engine on more boost, and race it again, so keep an eye out, you might here sooner rather than later how strong the stock pistons are Another down side to the stock pistons is at this power level, you have to run more piston to bore clearance, my pistons had started to pick up on the bore, we run almost fprged piston clearance, and stock rings in teh bigger bore have massive ring gaps out of the box, mine should be .018" but were .028" out of the box, huge. Engine has too much blow bye and is a little bit noisy cold.

If I was building an engine right, not in a rush, and doing destruction tesing as I am, I would ABSOLUTELY used forged pistons asap, no point building something your scared of breaking unless you have no choice. Besides, $1000 for a set it cheap insurance

Oh, and my CP's have the biggest gudgeon pins and race ring sets, they were built to handle 10500rpm and 45psi of boost

    Blimey...

Let us know how it goes!!!!

I would ahve loved forgies but being currently out of work I am struggling to get things back together as it is... only internal mods are a balanced bottom end but I am not after anything over 300 rwbhp.... its a cruiser not a racer

Either way thanks guys... there hare hardly any 1Gs here in the uk.... and I am fed up of the 7M people slagging of the 1G!
