Default Re: replacing fuel gauge for TA22

I just had this problem with my KE55, Fuel gauge went up then down again, After replacing the sender unit and gauge and much swearing, i put a test light on the sender unit and no power, so i ran a wire directly from the battery to the sender and it started working, also make sure everything is earthed correctly,

    Cheers Trent

Not having a multimeter doesn't exactly help the situation at the moment but my dad gets back from queensland in a couple of days and i'll just borrow one from his work, this sounds like the problem so i might have to go witht the straight wire to the battery like you did KE30...

just fixed mine last couple of weeks same thing .. multimeter doesnt give a steady result.

but works fine in my instance so dont put too much worry into bouncy multimeter readings.

got my hands on one of them electrical testers that light up when power is going through a wire and apparently there is power going to the sender unit! Getting some electrical wire tonight and gonna run it straight from the battery to the sender unit and see if that makes a difference.

After installing central locking in the car today i ran a wire from the battery to the sender unit and the gauge just maxed out. then after that ran a wire from the sender unit to an earth and it just does what it normally does... go up a tad a fall back down! What the hell can be wrong!!!!!

Hey guys, ok after a while of taking some time off i bought a 2nd hand gauge that worked and fuel sender unit that also worked. Installed both today but before i did i checked that there was power going to the back of the gauge to which there was and power going to the sender unit which there also was. Installed both of these making sure it was all done to the best of my ability but the problem is still occuring (goes up about 5mm now and just stops there). Any help or advice i'd much appreciated... it just doesn't seem to make sense?

gotta be something with the sender wire me thinks.

gunna have to continuity test it from dash to guage.

sensor should read 0-100 ohms each end.

Ok i think i have found the problem!

I think the wiring on the 4 point loom goes accordingly: (i tested each of them for power)
(globe power) Red wire with black stripe = power when lights are turned on
(sender unit) Yellow with red line = no power
(acc) flat yellow = no power
(earth) black with white stripe = no power

Is there suppose to be power going to either the acc or the sender wire? if so how would i go about hooking it up?

is there power on the acc wire when you turn the car to acc? maybe even 'on' when you get 'reds' should be when the acc wire is powered.
