Ok, I just went and looked at the one I have spare here, and the timing mark is not inline with keyway. So just ignore what i said about it. Although you still can find where it is meant to be by putting the engine at TDC on no.1 piston and punching a new mark corrispondiong to the 0 on the cover.

i may look at putting a mark in it to at least put a timing light on it.
however, i was talking to stradlater and he was saying that its entirely possible that alot of damage has been done to the engine because that is the harmonic balancer so it have been throwing the crank out a little.
and no its not been machined (At least i dont thnk so) if you look, the very back ridge looks like yeah it may be. but the next closest one, i duno if it shows up in the pic, but it has all jagged edges and is in a quite sharp point.
its as if something has jammed in between the two and worn them away until its falled out tho....why it got that bad without anyone noticing is beyond me

You can mark on the timing mark on that damaged crank, but seriously mate, do you want to go to the effort of 'working' with a possibly buggered engine anyway? atleast replace the bits you know are dodgy, like the harmonic balancer..
