Default 4agze chugging noise on idle, s/c bearings noisy

    Hi All,

I'm new here, just bought a front mount GZE AE92/93

The car is running without a s/c clutch, so the s/c is always engaged.

On idle the car seems to chug alot, the main noise seems to be coming from the s/c. The seller said that some GZE roller bearings tend to be noisier than others.

sometimes when accelerating or rolling in neutral, i can hear another noise, its like "eek eek eek", it gets faster as speed increases (or acceleration?). Its a higher pitched kind of noise, I'm not sure if its coming from the s/c.

Could someone shed some light on these noises for me please?

    Cheers

Does the speed of the "eek eek" increase with engine speed or road speed?

If road speed then check wheel bearings, brakes and backing plates and so on.

If engine speed then it could be either a loose SC belt (they need to be pretty tight) or a dodgy belt tensioner bearing. Somethimes a bit of WD40 on these bearings will shut them up.

Or maybe it is a chimpanzee trapped under the bonnet.

With the SC belt you will know it's the belt if you hear a screeching at the top end of acceleration.

How do I check the oil level in the s/c?

Sorry I'm pretty much an absolute noob with GZEs

One of my superchargers satrted making nasty grinding noises after I locked up the clutch. I wound up replacing the supercharger in the end..

My S/C makes nasty grinding noises... every other week... but it goes away... along with the clutch rattle noise... never heard an eek eek eek... it screames when revving it out, which is normal.

So this eek eek eek, can you get a recording of it?

I'll try to get a recording soon.

I can't see a yellow doobie at all. I'll take a photo of my engine bay soon as well.

You may need to remove some other tubing top get to it.
To empty out the oil for changing, undo the butterfly nut (i think) down under where the dipstick is. Oh and you fill it through the dipstick hole using a big plastic syringe and some 5mm plastic tubing.

Contact Mr Revhead on twincam.org (search for the Contact Mr Revhead thread), order 4 bottles of the s/c oil, they're about $10-12 each from memory. You only really need 3 but a spare for top ups is good.

Each pack includes a little 50ml tin of s/c oil, a syringe like the one above and some clear tubing.

Lean over engine, gently insert arm down between that thick insulated vacuum hose and the throttle cable, or anywhere else it can fit, being mindfull not to knock any of the vacuum lines off.

Unscrew the wingnut. You may need to be quiet crafty to remove it, by gently pushing aside some of the vacuum hoses.

To empty the s/c, we found it hard to get to the nut to drain it, so my mate shoved some of the tubing down as far as it would go and sucked up the oil that was in there, measuring how much was being removed each time. The S/C holds about 130ml, we got almost all of it out.

Then using a clean syringe and tubing and new oil, filled the s/c to 130ml.
