change the alternator bracket. Thats what i did, so its now on the otherside of the motor.
Hey all..
almost complete in finishing my turbo project from 4agze -> 4agte..
in regards to the alternator.. as it hangs off the front of the engine on a 4agze..should i get the 4age bracket from a n/a 4age and swap the mounting position..
or just measure the belt up and order one from a place like global auto parts?
Cheers..

Homebrew, triumph triple, turbo aw11
it will be neater to change the bracket, but im using the original bracket and running a smaller belt which runs on the wrong side of the idler pulley, a bit ghetto but it wouldnt be easy to change the bracket it my instance.

I'd say swap the mounting position so that if you break a belt when your away, or something similar, it should be a little easier to source!
it shouldnt be hard to source anyway, i dunno what car the belt thats used comes off but its probably no less common than a gze.
IMO changeing the alt mount to the inlet side is the better thing to do, cleans up more space for turbo stuff.
though.... as well as the lower ge alt mounting bracket, you need the water outlet from the head of a ge as it has the 2 bolt holes for the top alt tensioning bracket (plus that tensioning bracket), then you will also need the water pipe that runs from the top head outlet accross the rear of the block as it's different to a gze one. this pipe needs (well i did) modified so it doesnt run on the knock sensor, i just cut it shorter and put a peice of heater hose in between to direct it around the knock sensor.
also i am not 100% sure a gze alt will mount on the inlet side with the ge gear.... i use a Bosch 120amp universal alt.
that's all i can remember at the moment.![]()
