My old 4ac used to get around 400km a tank.. Pretty similar to the 4AGE actually.. Just the GE goes 50x better
hey guys just wondering how many kms you guys get out of a full tank?
cause my 4ac for some reason does really poorly.
i get about 300km at the most before i have to start refuelling again.

yep should get atleast 400 to the tank, my GTE can even do that.
maybe change the air filter, check the mixtures and clean out the carby.
Sounds like it needs some love, maybe a lot
Plugs, leads, air filter, do oil and oil filter while you are in there
Check your points, gap and dwell, do you timing
Check your cam timing too, it can be a tooth out, it's not hard to mess up the assembly when doing a timing belt.
Also sprinters are known for dead fuel guages, or ones that are a bit dicky.
How many litres are you putting in?
Kms travelled to litres used gives us more info to pinpoint your troubles
I've gotten 586kms in my car when it had dual dellortos on it, tuned by me and the internet I did 120kms on the light before i got scared, technically I still had 4 litres in the tank cos I put 46 in.
Now it struggles to get 450, but boost corrupts the brain, and the pocket

The spanner in my avatar is actually a 16mm, that's why it's still new
I got 400-450 out of mine in city driving, but bigger engine
Beige.... The new Black!!!
Most 4AC's you see use far too much fuel because various things get tired, especially the carbs. I remember one I used to have improved in power and economy quite a bit when I threw the carb away and put an impco LPG carb in place of it.
hey thanks for your feedback
Well your right my fuel gauge abit iffy cause its not 10% cause it goes up and down all the time as i accelerate. Any ideas how to fix?
Well usually when it shows nearly empty i fill up about 35 litres full tank just about.
Thinking of going 4age setup since this is causing so much trouble
Jeez, what are you guys doing?
I used to get 700km from my old 4AC in the Sprinter.
Don't forget it's a 50 litre tank and the fuel guage isn't very accurate. The low fuel light used to come on in my car at about 500km, so for a year or so I never went further than that. But then I worked out the fuel economy based on how far I'd gone and how I could go if I used the full 50 litres, and I reckoned I could go about 750km if I drove carefully.
So I did, and I went straight from 500km odd to 715km on one tank.
My AE71 has done 270,000 kms on the current motor. Gets 300ish kms to a 40 litre tank, when it used to get 400ish around town.
Changing plugs, leads, oil and filters do nothing I find. It's probably a combination of the poo 4A-C carby, poo 4A-C dizzy and points gap.
I haven't bothered to touch my engine for a while, as I have a 200,000km motor with new clutch, fuel pump and water pump waiting to go in it's place.
400 kms is a norm for it.. though i once did 600 kms easily, on a cruise to Gippsland where there was very little traffic lights.. actually made it back on the same tank of fuel, and driving around there too.. even doing a high-speed run on a private road in between.. and yea it's a 4A-C..
Research has shown child in front seat causes accidents, accident in back seat causes child
I was to believe ADM ones were 40 litre, where JDM were 50 litre tanks.Originally Posted by Billzilla
Either way, I get about 450km's on my tank, where I fill up usually 32 litres of fuel.
I'm sure I've put more than 40 litres in mine (ADM w/4AGE swap) - ie consistent with a 50L tank.
(The advantage of not running a surge tank is the warning it gives you when it's low - most EFI tanks don't give you any warning at all, engine just stops)

jdm tank is 50L, I put one in my AE86. I have gotten some fantastic consumption figures on with my 20V, down to 6.5L/100km on the hume highway. And that's with a Microtech - ie no closed loop lambda control. But then again, 900kg isn't a lot to push around...

Hmmm, you're right. I just check some of my old data sheets and they are 50 litre O_o
On a side note, should the fuel sender be replaced or something? Seeing as the fuel light comes on when only approx 32 litres of fuel is used. If so, anny suggestions of what fuel sender or just a factory replacement would do?
