I would be checking the wires at the coil. Had the same problem a long time ago. Since you have swapped out tacho's a few times, I think you can eliminate them as the problem.
cheers Chuck.
Alright,
I have just put a done up 3T engine into my TA22, however i decided to keep the T-18 Gearbox, and numerous other things that were better in the T-18. The car is running fine. However the Tacho is not working. I have tried three other tachos from other dashes that i have for the 22, but i cant get it to work. I have looked through the wireing diargrams and checked the wires and the plug. I am now pulling apart my good TA22 and getting the tacho out of that to see whether i have 4 dud Tachos.
If anyone has encountered a problem like this, and could possibly shed some light on it, that would be great. I have spent almost two full days tracing all the wires, ect back making sure there all right for everything else, eg aircon ect.
Cheers Walt

30 somthing year old wiring dude it is going to be fucked at the best of times i had a similar problem turned out to be a bad connection at the coil
What sort of ignition are you running? The tacho's don't like some electronic ignition types,
THanks for reply's.
Running standard ignition coil with ballast. Checked wiring and have signal at tacho plug end. The signal will run hand held multimeter tacho so have no idea why its not working on orignial tacho. The car was an auto changed to a manuel, however i am pretty sure that has no effect on tacho.
Any more help??
Cheers Walt
hey mate it is most likely that wiring, but when you are holding the plug it may be making a connection, but when it is plugged into the tacho its breaking the connection.
i had to re run the wire from my tacho, now it works a treat. Jamie
