i had something similar, and was told it was oil pressure problem. i added more oil and it seemed to fix it... i havent heard it for a while now, less the oil runs low again![]()
Ok, i've had this problem a while.
Basically, when i start the car, there is a tick tick tick, something to do with the lifters perhaps, or maybe engine pinging. But once the engine warms up, the sound is no longer there. However, occasionaly, even when warm, it shows up. It's coming from the engine/intake manifold area.
Now, to add to this, the idle seems a little low. Ever so slightly low, so it's not as smooth as i'd like. Turn the fan on and it gets worse. (fan without a/c)
Toyota told me the fan temp switch was gone (and it was), and changing that will fix the problem.
So got that changed, and still the same thing. Idle is still slightly rough
I've got the intake manifold cleaner, and sprayed that through, to see if it was due to a carbon build up in the manifold, but that didn't help either. (i initially thought the sound was from the manifold, but now i'm not sure again)
So basically i have a rough idling car, which 'ticks' when cold, and sometimes when warm. The rough idle is in sync with the 'tick'
I'm not that great with cars, i am handy, but not fully hardcore, so slightly more laymans terms will be great.
Car is a 92 ST190 Corona, 4S-FE engine, which is very similar to the 3S-FE
I wanna get the idle, and the noise fixed, it's been bugging me for ages now

hmm, well i just had my car serviced by toyota themselves last week. So it has the required amt of oil i'd assume, am i meant to be 'overfilling' it by a bit?
Sticky idle speed control valve?
If it's easy to access you might as well pull it off and give it a clean.
where abouts is it? And what does it look like
*runs off to google*
ok, so i worked out where it was
under the intake manifold, the only thing i can get off, is the solenoid thingi. I assume taking off the intake manifold itself is hard work? How long would it take? I wouldn't mind giving it a good clean up
How much would it cost to get it done?
My mate reckons the ignition timing probably needs adjustment... Can that be done by me? or do i have to take it in somewhere? and if so, how much will it cost?
Cheers
